Hi guys
Is there a particular setup that would be particularly good for head shaving that you know of? a fellow head shaver gave a rave review to the Merkur futur adjustable and i was going to go ahead and buy it but i thought it would be better to ask on here first.

Are those both the same btw?
I am new to the forum but i have been lurking for some time. I recently purchased an Edwin Jagger along with 10 derby extra razor blades and some proraso cream which provides a fantastic, clean shave for my face but it's almost impossible not to nick my head when it comes to shaving the back and sides.
Great forum guys and i look forward to receiving some expert advice :)

I shave my head with a EJ89l and never hasve even a weeper-The Furtur is much more aggressive and I would't shave my head with it.Try a different blade with the EJ razor as derby is not the smoothest blade around IMO.Of course YMMV

Welcome to the B&B. I would use a 40's Super Speed on your head. That is what I use and I get no cuts...The Futur is a lawn mower on your head, very aggressive (can cut/nick easily) razor.

What razor blades would you recommend instead of the derby?

I use super iridiums and Perma-sharps but they are hard to come by--Get a sampler from one of the vendors and I am sure you will find the blade for you

Right, so along with my Edwin Jagger i am going to get a Gillette super speed. That is the razor issue solved i hope. Now what about razor blades that are not so hard to come by?
These Merkur stainless seem to get good reviews?

Or what about Astra, Wilkinson sword, Feather?

I realize that my scalp may be different to the next persons but i am basically just after the best tried and tested kit for a smooth and forgiving shave..
Alex, is it just any old 1940's superspeed that i am after?
Any other suggestions for a good head shave are welcomed. Although i can't imagine there being anything special to it.

Just remember-- the same rules apllies but even more so to head-shaving--NO pressure and go really slow till you get the hang of it

Futur plus headshaving equals major mishap. Don't do it!
Get a Tech and some medium-sharp yet smooth blades, such as Bolzanos
For head shaves I use whatever I'm using for my face. You can use a Futur just set it at a low setting,no higher than 2.Let's face it no matter what razor you use you still need to be careful. For blades I've used the Red IP's and found them to be excellent for head and face in a variety of razors. Also a good prep is a must with head shaves.

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't looked into blades on this forum at all but i can see that Extra Derby's are not well rated. I will purchase some Astra and Personna blades and just use them with my Edwing Jagger De89bl and also spend more time on prep. I will read through the the forum more.
Cheers guys

I use Wilkinson Sword Extreme III disposables. Only go against the grain, and maybe 3 or 4 small cuts (probably when a bump developed there I hadn't noticed) in maybe 15 years of head shaving 2-3 times a week.
