Very nice - I really like the Pitralon - very different from anything else I've used.

The smell of the Alt Innsbruck is awesome. Very menthol, very masculine scent. The Pitralon is definitely different from any aftershave I've used. I will certainly give it a go.

Thats it, a new supply from Pauldog comes in bulk and you just tell him what you need, its a little cheaper and greener this way also.

Some goodies from Rossi at Handmade Naturals:

ASB for me - this stuff is great and I think it will be perfect for the winter:

http://www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=33

And some goodies for my wife:

Face cream - if she doesn't like it, I may have to give it a go:

http://www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=4

And a sample of the Replenishing Face Cream:

http://www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=35

I've used the ASB and the eye cream and think they're very good products - all natural, with lots of good stuff - shea butter, jojoba, olive oil, and EOs for both scent and soothing properties.

Great stuff!

Well, I guess I had a pretty good week. I don't know after reading the following some of you guys may want to take pity on me as everything didn't go exactly to plan. You see I set out to acquire a few mechanically sound, in good but not great shape razors that I could press into my daily rotation as shavers with absolutely no guilt or worries. Well, as you see it didn't work out that way but I know I've come to the right place for a sympathetic ear and a word or two of encouragement. So here goes my tale of woe...fetch your hankies...

It all started innocently enough. I thought I would search out a group auction or two and try to pick up a few decent shavers on the cheap. So it's off to Ebay and I commence the search. Within a minute or two I come across a rather unprepossessing photo of three razors that could really do with a cleaning. There's a cased Slim Adjustable in dire need of a cleaning, a couple of nasty blade packs, what looks like a dirty...real dirty...'48-'49 SS and another filthy cased razor that...well, more on that one later. The photo was slightly blurred and small to boot but I figured why not and so I cast a bid. There wasn't much competition but I finally brought it home a la the snipe for about $50.00 shipped. A little more than I wanted to pay but maybe...just maybe...it would be worth it.

I set these shots up quickly and using the TTL on my D50. The lighting in the library isn't the best in the center of the room but it should do well enough to illustrate my point. I'll adjust for the lighting and get better pictures up later I promise.

Well, The Slim Adjustable was a mess. However a bout with the Scrubbing Bubbles and the other cleaning and polishing agents in my arsenal (on both the razor and the case) and it's a near mint beauty with firm clicks, no damage, and about 95% of the paint on the numbers. It looks snappy! But I'm no fan of the adjustables so this one will probably be hitting the BST soon. Here's a preview-

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b227/mjl1297/SG.jpg

The '48-'49 SS that I was hoping would be a very good shaver was a disappointment. I mean it turned out to be a near mint 1947 Super Speed!! I mean I ask you is that fair?!? Where is that hankie? Will someone pass me one to dry my tears?

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b227/mjl1297/1947.jpg

One of the blade packs was damaged and had to be thrown away. Also a few moments of silence for one of my toothbrushes (cleaning toothbrushes before anybody gets cute!) that made the supreme sacrifice whilst removing the grunge from the '47.

And the other one? Well, that one was the biggest disappointment of all. I tell you I was still holding out hope for a decent shaver and instead after cleaning and polishing all I got was another mint razor! It pains me to show you what it is. In fact I'll give you the option of not even looking at it unless you just want to. It's bad but you've been warned so don't come whining to me...

RAZOR PORN ALERT!

RARE FIND ALERT!!

PEA GREEN WITH ENVY ALERT!!

You asked for it...

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b227/mjl1297/54SScopy.jpg

OHHHHHH YEAH!!!

I'll get some better pictures up later if you guys are really interested!!

One other thing, to add insult to injury, the other cased Executive/Diplomat that I picked up this past week to shave with turned out to be MINT too!! But I'm shaving with it anyway...so there!!

Seriously though, really not too bad at all!!

Kriegsbeute from my quick dash into Germany today and yesterday. (2*770km in very bad weather conditions)

From the Schlecker drugstore in Nürnberg: Old Spice aftershave (Procter&Gamble UK) and Wilkinson Classic blades (made in Solingen, by the way:rolleyes: )

From Kaufland (supermarket) in Nürnberg: Speick shavecream and Speick aftershave (Stauff:  ). Other brands: Palmolive classic and sensitive, Williams tub and stuff not worth mentioning (canned goo)...

Big disappointment: Tabac original soap was nowhere to be found. I can't find it in Belgium and I can't find it in Germany...

And: Kaufland had more condoms on display - in all colours, flavours, sizes and features - than shaving products... I wonder, is this typically German :frown:

As reported by the wife this afternoon: "Your shave stuff came today."

Nice! (1) Tub of Vulfix Old Original Sandalwood Shave Cream from QED.

Funny aside: She said, "What's Geo Trumper?" I immediate panicked (was at work) and figured a simple mistake was made while packaging the order, so I asked her to open it up and tell me what the tub said. I could hear her mumbling under her breath, "Geez...how in the hell are you supposed to get at this?!?" Charles and his over the top packing...secure enough to toss a Faberge Egg off a cliff...gotta love that!

Just got my delivery from Korin:

I got a 24 cm Gyutou and a 15 cm Petty - here's the Gyutou:

11878

These knives look very well made and my initial impression is that the handles will be very comfortable. They're also sharp as hell - in fact I was able to shave hair off of my arm with them right out of the box - one of the best factory sharpening jobs I've expereienced - espeicailly on knives that cost around $50.

I can't wait to use them tonight - I've not used Japanese knives before, so am looking forward to giving them a workout.

Thanks to Ouch for providing some good suggestions/advice to a Japanese knife neophyte!

I also got the DVD on Japanese kives/sharpening and a really nice Japanese cookbook:

11879

No pictures, but a great source of information on Japanese cookery/ingredients/techniques and lots of recipes that look quite good.

French Soaps Score... this is 2 of 3 orders I placed.... I am a bit dissapointed with the size of the soap flakes... but the block soaps are heavenly... and the orange smells absolutely divine.. I am heading for my bath tub right now with it... :thumbup1:

Mama Bear
09-28-2007, 11:37 AM
They are all nice... I don't think they smell as nice as Issy's or my soaps.. but they are very nice.
I have to say a couple things about them... these are BIG blocks of soap.... 300 grams is 9-10 ounces... I don't use a puff or washcloth, I have always rubbed the soap directly on my skin and I couldn't do it with these soaps because they were too big for my hand. They could be sliced in half or even thirds, but they are so cool looking that I would hate to do that.

It sure got me clean tho! Really clean.... This is good soap and with the 30% discount they are a terrific value for the money.

I have been spoiled for so long with heavily superfatted soaps that these felt a little bit drying to me. When I think about the commercial soaps out there.. these are still MUCH, MUCH better tho. But I still believe in the future I will go back to my own soaps, but I am going to give them a week and maybe I will feel differently after using them for a while.. it is hard to give a review after only one use...

I think they might be better suited to a man than a woman if that makes sense... but I am not giving them up...

Mama Bear
09-28-2007, 12:13 PM
I want to take back the term drying... they aren't really drying, just not as moisturizing as what I am used to.. but please, please remember that I use heavily superfatted soaps... so most soaps out there will not compare to what I use.

I would say if you haven't used real soap before.... get in there and get your 30% discount and buy a few..

This is what I purchased today from "The Perfect Shave" in Glasgow (also available on the net, check out the web site, guys:

www.theperfectshave.co.uk:

A Parker "Interceptor" safety razor with a "butterfly opening mechanism"

Bottle of Proraso aftershave balm

Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian Lime cologne (this product has been re-designed and packaged, the scent is now more spicy but not so heavy with the lime scent)

A "perfect shave" styptic pen (which to be honest I hope I never have to use)
