After a weekend of finishing phase two of the backyard redo, going back to work will be, well, if not great and wonderful, at least not physically taxing. Man, my shoulders are killing me.

The shave set up for the week is:

Olive oil soap as a pre-shave,
1940's gold Gillette tech (a lot of the plating has worn off)
Crystal Blade, first time using one of these
Palmolive green
Dickinson's witch hazel
Euphoria ASB (figured out the scent of it, verbena)

The Crystal and the Tech go well together. That old razor has been used a bunch in the past, but it still shaves as if this is the first day. I will have a BBS shave to get into work and whine about my sore muscles.

Got this sample awhile back. I've never been a fan of pre-shave oils or creams, and this didn't change my opinion. Smelled like mentholated heavily chlorinated pool water. And the only thing it made slicker was my grip on my razor! The razor almost slipped out of my hand mid-stroke numerous times. I'm lucky I didn't lose a pint of blood!

2 Days with the Merkur blade - my first time using them. I am going to go with a fresh one for tomorrow's shave. I find I had to tug a bit more to get proper cutting compared to Derby's and IP's which I use regularly, but the shave wasn't "harsh" as some folks experience with the Merkurs. The pack was a freebie from Lee as part of the 38C intro sale he had for B&B'ers. I'll most likely use the pack and then go back to Derby's, IP's and the occasional dance with a Feather. Ciao!

Result: 4.6/5.0 One tiny weeper from XTG under chin with the Feather ACD-N. I expanding my techniques a little with that razor. Of course, Bay Rum, was the theme of the day as you can see. This was the first time using The Shave Den Bay Rum Soap. Lather and performance passes my standards for a soap with plenty of room to spare.. The scent is very good and natural without being overpowering. No irritation. The Ogallala Bay Rum aftershave and cologne continue to be one of my favorites.

This was the first time I used a Fusion, a gift from a friend. I hated the M3 and was using the cheapo 2-blade Gillettes before switching to a DE a couple years ago. To tell you the truth, the Fusion isn't bad. I was actually pretty impressed. I can do better with a DE, but for the average guy that doesn't want to put in the time to learn a DE, the Fusion looks to be a decent, albeit expensive, option. I still hate that horible lubrication strip - Nasty, nasty thing. The real question is will I be able to use it for a week with no ingrowns. I can get a slightly better shave with a DE, but at a fraction of the cost, so I'm never going to buy a Fusion.

Olivia Crema Vegan is semi solid. It's not easy to get a rich lather.
I think that's because of its high percentage content in cocoa butter, avocado oil and clay.
I found I must use it as a soap, i.e. more water and much work needed.

This was my first day using the new Rooney brush. I loved it, but since it was just the first time, I’ll reserve judgment until I get a few weeks of use under my belt. I normally just do a 2 pass shave, but I did a 4 pass shave this time, just because the Rooney still had tons of cream in it. I probably could have gotten 6 or 7 passes out of the amount of cream in the brush. It’s possible that I used too much cream.:redface:

This was also the first time I have used Musgo Real Shave Cream. I have to say, it was fantastic. Gave a great shave, but the thing I really liked was the scent. God bless that is one fantastic scent. I’m pretty sure that if there is a heaven, it has to smell like Musgo Real. Just an amazing scent that I can’t wait to use again.

I’ve never really used a splash after shave much, just a few times, do you think the splash is more effective then the balm? I use a splash followed by a balm if my skin is very dry, it just depends on how your skin is feeling that day. (or season)

Result: 4.6/5.0 Superlather Day! Took two "different" scents and put them together to make a nice combo. Talk about thick and rich and everything. This was like day 9 on the Feather ACD-N and it went right through everything. I'm lucky if I can get 3 days on a DE. But that superlather just made it better. I won't switch over to the unguarded blades until I use up the guarded ones first. I kep one in reserve in case. Using the ACD-N has me hunting for a wedge or 1/4 hollow even more. Full hollow ground STR8 blades are tough on me until I get better with them.

First use of an SCS soap. When loading the brush, the lather seemed to me to be closer to that of a cream, and this is the first time that I have seen this with a glycerin soap. Tomorrow is the New Spice day...

The aftershave smells very different from the cream.

The cream smells soapy and grassy. The aftershave has a strong masculine scent that is had for me to describe.

Third day with the Chubby. The brush is changing daily as it breaks in. It was very easy to use the QED stick with the Chubby as I loaded the right amount of soap directly on my face with the stick. The Chubby gushed with lather and after some scrubbing and I had plenty for three passes plus touch up.

I think I put on too much of the New Spice Edt. SWMBO said the scent was too strong. I guess this scent is much more potent than most other Edts since I put the same amount on that I normally do(unless the atomizer sprays out more in the SCS bottles). SWMBO is also sick, so that is a factor. I have a feeling that she will really like the Bay Rum with a Twist though.

Me, I used a Simpson ... Major in Super (sorry, I don't have a Chubby :blink: )

I lathered up my T&H luxury soap, scraped it off twice with a Jonathan Crookes Barber's Only razor with custom Forgotthenameofit wood scales, and follwed that up with witch hazel, TOBS sandalwood AS, and Nivea asb.

Toss a bit of Pashana hair tonic in there, and we're good to go.

The dip-tubes do spray a tad more than some. I also make my EDT's strong so you receive your moneys worth. Try cutting your application to at least half of your normal or even 3/4's less.

this blade is just not that good.
Also, can someone please tell me why the Booster is so great? I mean, I was disappointed when I first got it, I was expecting at least some menthol due to the name. But, the only ingredients are water, alcohol, color, and fragrance. In spite of that, it always leaves my face feeling nice (although it will only work for me in the summer - it's too drying for the winter).
