View Full Version : Bye-Bye Gillette, Hello Badger and Blade

I was using a fusion blade for only 3 shaves and figured a year's worth of shaving, with canned foam, was running me close to $400.
Yes, yes. Before you make fun of me, I have been reading for the past couple of months and I know what's going to happen to the money-saving theory (in big trouble already)--but hey, it's my own choice now how expensive I want the shave to be, not something a deceitful corporate monopoly has decided.
Now, if someone can please explain to me why my blades seem to perform better on day 2. This makes no sense.
Cheers guys!

When you say perform better what do you mean? Smoother, less irritation? Some guys like to gently run the edge over a cork before the first use, just to take some of the sharpness/ harshness off.

Welcome to B&B. Nice to have you with us. I hope the AD's don't get ahold of you too soon. If they do that $400 will look pretty good to you. Enjoy this site, and all it has to offer.

+1. There are also the various Gillette DE blades that are top notch as well that you may end up buying...

The joke's on me. I'll guess I used the fusion for about 10 years. You saw the light long before I did.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I suppose smoother would be the key word (less tugging). "Run the edge over a cork"? That's some big shave slang for me right now :) Can you explain?

You got it man, as a new convert myself, also from the Fusion, i know that while i may spend more in the long run on all sorts of shaving related purchases, its not that i have to spend hat money to be able to shave. shaving DE means i can shave very much on the cheap if i need/want to. its just all the ADs are gonna kick in and i will "need" more razors, creams, soaps, aftershaves, and what have you. but its not anything like being forced to spend $30 on a back of 8 cartridges. that's just ridiculous.
But, as Dmoney said, i have nothing against Gillette. im not too big a fan of their current lineup, but i love my vintage 40's style Super Speed.

Welcome to B&B. Here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/31992-Easy-Guide-to-Corking-Blades) is some info on corking a razor blade. Some individuals feel they get a smoother shave when they cork a blade or when they use a blade a second time.

I switched to save money. The shaving ADs are bad enough, but you *really* have to watch out for the Fountain Pens, nice paper, cookware, knives, clothes, watches, hats, etc.
