Greetings, I have been a wet-shaver for a long time - just in the cartridge realm.

I had been looking at alternate shaving tools - as I hated shaving and have mentioned it to my wife some time ago. She knows how much I disliked shaving. Well, this year for Christmas she gave me a Merkur long-handle, badger hair brush, and some C&E Nomad Cream...(I had just finished another C&E cream and enjoyed it).

So now I am enjoying a new exploration into shaving. I will say this is the closest shave I have gotten, but I am experiencing a bit of neck irritation (although I didn't give my neck much attention with cartridges, because they usually just pulled if i tried to get too smooth). My neck hair goes in multiple directions and has always been a challenge. Always a post shower shaver, but have never used any pre-shave lotions or oils. I have been having some pulling using the Merkur blades (even brand new blade this a.m.), and I have a sample pack coming from westcoastshaving to see if another brand may suit me better.

I am looking forward to finding that great shave - and have already learned much from browsing this forum.

Welcome. Neck irritation is common when starting out. Ensure you are adjusting the angle of your razor to be the correct angle as you move down your face and neck. Try to get your neck skin tight and as smooth and flat as possible to lessen the irritation. Your skin also needs a while to get used to the sensation of the DE blade on it. It'll all come with time.

+1. One other tip (from a fellow "neck hair grows every which way" sufferer)...avoid going against the grain for now...do a couple of with the grain passes for now while you're getting your technique down. Welcome aboard!

The most important thing to always keep in mind for avoiding skin irritation is: NO PRESSURE on the razor. Welcome to B&B, mate. :001_smile
