View Full Version : How would you rank your soaps?

My current arsenal consists of the following:
Kent soap
Trumpers rose
Cella
Trumpers violet
I have listed them in my order of preference. The kent soap is by far the best performer of the bunch. I consistently get great shaves
and my skin feels great afterwards. In fact whenever I travel it is the soap I bring. The lather and slickness are hard to beat. Trumpers rose slightly beats out cella.
Trumpers violet rounds out the list simply for the fact that I get a slightly drying sensation after the shave.
How about you?

Fairly new so I only have two soaps at the moment.

1. MWF
2. EJ Sandlewood

I won't list all of mine but the very top performers are the ones you've seen listed before.

Tallow: AOS, D.R. Harris, Tabac, MWF & Prairie Creations.
Veg: MdC, Institute Karite

For shave sticks the Valobra, Speik, Palmolive and La Toja sticks rule the roost.

Croaps like QCS, Dovo, RazoRock, Cella & Vitos have been very very good to me. :thumbup1:

I have too many that are on par with each other to rank them. However, I could group them like this:

Santa Maria Novella, far and away outshines all the others.

These are in no particular order and perform very well:
DR Harris lavender
TOBS lavender (old formula)
Tabac
Cella
Valobra stick
Irisch Moos stick
Green Mountain bay rum

Then there is this group also in no particular order:
GF Trumper violets
Valobra soft soap
TOBS lavender (new formula)
Vintage Williams
A couple of artisan goat milk soaps

Lastly there is all the stuff that I have but don't use:
VDH
Williams (modern formula)
Bar of Ivory
Box of laundry detergent

The last group will probably always be the last group and SMN will probably always be number one. However, depending on where and when I use the others, due to water, mood, etc. I could see some of the others changing places as the differences are not that great.

I still have several more soaps to go through but my three top performers ( in no particular order) are:

Mama Bears Ye Old Barbershop
AOS Sandalwood
Colonel Conk Bay Rum

I only have two at the moment:

Tabac - Smells awful but works great
Mama Bear's Aged Spice - Smells great but works awful

Now if I could only find something in between, I'd be set.

At the moment:

1. Speick stick
2. Razorock Muguet de France
3. La Toja stick
4. AoS sandalwood
5. Prairie Creations (scents don't vary much to me)

I'll add that when I lather it correctly, I like the performance of MWF. But the scent is a zero to me.

About the same performance-wise but Cella is my favorite scent by far.

VdH, Speick, Palmolive, PdP are my other soaps. Leaving the creams out of it.

Cella
Palmolive (Australian)

Even though the Australian Palmolive shaving stick ranks the lowest, it's still very good.

From my experience with tallow, it seems to just make a greasier lather. I still like it but it's not my preference.

You might consider the QCS Tub Creams which have the consistency of Soft Soap, are easy to load the Brush from the Tub and have very good scents. You might like the Old Spice, which is not an exact clone but is Fresh, a bit Soapy and not Heavy or overbearing. The Celestial Woods is a wood based scent with notes of Pine; Key Lime, just take a Lime peel give it a twist and sniff, not sweet or artificial and it was my lather of choice ~97% during the past Summer. They have a Tangerine, which by my sniff from the Tub, will be this Summer's choice for shaving.

Didn't mean to Hijack your Thread.

I'm down to one soap, Tabac. The rest have been used up or sold off. I've got a couple of creams as well that are preforming nicely but nothing beats Tabac for me in the soap realm.

My goal when I first found B&B was to find my "one soap", but I haven't been able to. Even though I have a clear favorite, I haven't been able to push aside all the other premium soaps that I have.

Faves (no particular order):
Provence Sante Green Tea, Cella, Trumper's Rose (tallow version), Harris Arlington (tallow version), Mama Bear's, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Woods of Windsor (tallow), Pre de Provence, Arko, Valobra, Palmolive, Irisch Moos, Speick, Trumpers Coconut and Sandalwood (new versions).

Others (I don't use these often):
L'Occitane Cade, I Coloniali, Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn (great fragrance), Monsavon.

Would like to try:
Fitjar, Martin de Candre, and Castle Forbes Lime (apparently it's really a cream).

1. Palmolive (European - the most consistent performer)
2. QCS (Old Spice type, new to me so may overtake Palmolive as the lather is every bit as good but the skin care is better)
3. MWF (wonderful lather, but cannot use it more than once a week or my face breaks out)
4. Modern Williams (can be drying, but makes consistently good lather that is very slick)
5. Pre de Provence (nice lather, great skin care, but not as slick as the above soaps)

All of these soaps are great, but I'm narrowing down to 3: Palmolive (daily workhorse), Williams (base for superlather), and QCS.

Well, I am still quite new to this, so I only have two soaps: MdC and GFT Limes. Both are (in my limited experience and opinion) very good, but... MdC is on a higher level.
