Head v. Face: skin differences

So I've noticed that my scalp is able to take a lot more abuse than my face. I can go full on ATG on my head, which I can't do on my face. I can do tons of passes, even with multi blade razors, on my scalp, but on my face it would cause massive irritation and ingrown hairs.
Is the scalp just made of tougher skin or something?

Yep! I've noticed the same thing

It must be,I do one ATG on the dome and it's BBS with no irritation at all.My face I do 3 passes,WTG,XTG and ATG.If I start off with ATG I get Lava skin.My neck area is even more prone to Lava skin I do 3 WTG passes,I stopped doing ATG on my neck.
