I am ready to get back into DE safety razor shaving after almost 15 years of cartridge. This forum is partly to blame !
I ordered an Edwin Jagger Classic DE89, blades to last me a lifetime and a cheap Vulfix Pure Black Badger Shaving Brush.
I will try Feather blades first since Astra is well known to me.
I am planning my next purchase to be Merkur 38C and was wondering if my choices are appropriate for a "newbie".
This is quite exciting!

Welcome from a fellow Canuck!
You EJ DE89 will serve you VERY well for years to come and with Astras and Feathers, you also have two nice blades to go between. Rather than going for the 38C, you'll probably be better off upgrading your brush down the road (Simpson Case, Special or Berkeley are ~$40-50). It looks like you are off to a great start! :thumbup1:

This. I have just added a Case to my rotation and even though I'm just a few shaves in with it, I rather enjoy it and am looking forward to its further breaking in. Also, you may want to check into J.M. Fraser creams if you haven't already. I am VERY impressed with their Oriental Spice and will also pick up a tub of their Original when my usual sources have it back in stock.
And welcome! Whereabouts in Canada are you?
Cheers!

Welcome to B&B ... and welcome back to Wet Shaving!
EJ DE89 is a very good choice ... "lifetime of blades" - sorry, that is a urban legend/myth! :lol1:
