Let me put my situation in perspective before I write my remarks on my first experience with the MdC.

I am on my 35th DE shave. I have used CE Bigelow cream, GFT Coconut soap and Bullfrog Coconut Lime soap over the course of my wet-shaving endeavors. Of those, I wound up getting the best lather out of the Bigelow cream, but it mostly came down to developing more of a sense of how to correct a crap lather.

So, I was shaving the other night, or I should say, trying to shave. I was using my Tech with a 1-shave old Wilkie blade. I whipped up some of the Bullfrog soap, but it was just continually drying out and going on thin and airy. I should have added more water and kept working it, but it was a free sample and I just wanted to get my shave done rather than futz with the stuff. So, I decided to break out a sample of my MdC soap (I also have a new 170g jar, but am waiting to crack it open).

I took the little balled up sample and flattened it into my 4oz Calibowl and then dribbled a few drops of water onto it and let it sit for a few minutes. My Omega Pro 49 brush was already wet from the first round. I put the brush on the soap disc and swirled it with moderate force exactly four times around.

I then put the brush to my face and started to swirl. Literally within a few seconds a creamy lather exploded out of the brush and covered my skin like a heavy whipped cream. I said, "wow" as this happened and my fiancee', who was in the living room heard me and was like, "what's going on in there?". I said, "this frenchie soap is incredible!".

Not only did it lather blazing fast compared to anything else I have used up to this point, but the quality of the lather for the amount of work was above and beyond anything else that I had to stir up for 30secs -1.5 minutes.

My shave went really well and I did actually enjoy the scent. It makes me glad to have another 170g of it and that it will last me a long, long time.

I'm not exactly anxious to try anything else, but I will eventually try a Cella, MWF, Klar Kabinett, Dr. Dittmar's shave soap and a TABAC. I'm not sure how the performance could get any better short of someone waving a wand and the perfect lather appearing on my face. Then again, that practically happened, the wand was just a Omega brush :)

Yep. Can't really improve on MdC.

You are right: this is one soap that takes only a few swirls to load your brush. I have been using MdC this week and what surprised me is the scent is getting better than when I first used it.

Yep...MdC is the best. Your next purchases should be TABAC and try any of the Queen Charlotte creams (soft soap). IMHO all other soaps are lacking.

LOL, yup, seems like a lot of people get this reaction from MdC. I piffed a 22mm badger brush and covered soap bowl that I threw on the pottery wheel to a member here and put about half an ounce of MdC into to bowl... He just got it on Thursday, and I don't think he realized what MdC was at the time, but he had the same "WOW" reaction compared to the VdH that he had been using previously... I found the reaction to the MdC "nice", for lack of a better word. :001_smile

Waiting for a small bit from Garry's' Samples. If it's what everyone says it is I just might have to pop for a jar.
Glad you like it. Thanks for the review.

well, I had a more difficult time with it last night when using my WhippedDob black badger 24mm brush. I just wasn't getting the water to product ratio right. For some reason, my Omega Pro just worked better for me right out of the gate. More practice is in order...

It seems about 15% of the soap threads are about MdC :)

I may have to try some out.

Ok, just tried MdC (scented) this morning. Got my sample from Garry's Samples.
Well I have to tell you that it is something else indeed. I only tried it once so far so I'm not going to sit here and say it's the best thing since sliced bread but it's certainly the best soap I've ever used so far. Lathered like crazy from a very little piece. Went on thick and stayed there. Smooth shave for all passes. Face felt great all day. Can't wait till tomorrow morning. I guess this stuff is worth the money. Now I have to find some cash for a jar!

A lot of guys were talking about the scent. I don't think it's bad at all. It was kind of minty/peppery to me.

Well OP...since you already sprung for a jar of MdC go ahead and get a jar of Acqua Di Parma cream. Amazing scent and performance as you described with MdC. YMMV.

There. It's the only place you can get it from unless you want to go to their place in France. Took about a week to arrive to the U.S., extremely well packed.

I clicked on the link and see several different products, but no descriptions. Has anyone ordered the ones in the glass containers? Specifically, Savon ŕ raser "l'Ami" (http://www.savonnerie-martin-de-candre.com/en/savon-a-raser/220-savon-a-raser-l-ami.html)

Savon ŕ raser "Le Cannelé" (http://www.savonnerie-martin-de-candre.com/en/savon-a-raser/216-savon-a-raser-le-cannele.html)
Savon ŕ raser Le Bol en Bois (http://www.savonnerie-martin-de-candre.com/en/savon-a-raser/217-savon-a-raser-le-bol-en-bois.html)
Are they the same soap, just in a different dish?

Thanks.

I think most guys just order the screw top jar because it's the most practical container. That's what I did anyway. Gotta admit that the huge wooden bowl does look great though.

Also, I shaved with this soap today and was very impressed. With my Rooney 1/1, loading was effortless, but the lack of flow-through on that brush meant that I had to mix the lather more on my face. By the second pass, the mix was about right and I found this to be a very good soap with the kind of super creamy, ultra-lubricious lather people on here tout this soap for. Also, I found this a lot less drying than most soaps I've tried. Although it's way to early to say MdC is the be-all end-all, my initial impression is that it's one of the very few soaps (along with my old favorite PdP) that I could use every day in the winter. I actually really enjoy the lavender mint scent even though some guys reported that they didn't care for it. Will give it a go tomorrow with my new Thater brush and see how that works out.

I also got two small samples of bath soap with my order that smell wonderful...haven't used either yet.

:euro:Hmm, France must be closer to North Carolina than Canada. My MdC was here in a week with a generous "Merry Christmas" soap bar whose scent totally permeated the shipping box, my office then my car on the way home. I hadn't even slit the tape yet. Didn't need a shave this evening so opted to shower with the soap bar. HEAD RUSH! Awesome scent.

Crack of dawn France and England will be dancing on my face. Polo 8 super in the warm up scuttle. :straight:
