I've been shaving with a Shavemac silvertip brush and the recommended soaps/creams for a year now. Stuck with the ProGlide cartridge until I got comfortable with the brush and creams. Well yesterday, I finally made the switch to DE!!!!!!!!

I won't lie, I was nervous as I am one of those guys that are usually nervous to try something for the first time. Also, I was nervous because I hate blood; I'll admit that it makes me weak lol .

Setup: Merkur HD, Derby blade, Proraso cream, Shavemac silvertip brush.

Wow, I could not believe how smoothly the razor will just glide without any tugging. Cannot believe Gillette is marketing their latest cartridge to 'glide'.

My goal for my first DE shave was just not to get any nicks or cuts. Well goal accomplished :). Wasn't too concerned about getting BBS (didn't even do ATG) but still too my surprise I got just about as clean as a shave as the ProGlide. I did 2 WTG and 2 XTG. Honestly it felt great, I'm so happy to know that even if the other blades dont work in the sampler pack for me then at least DE + Derby > ProGlide.

Just a few concerns I have, so hopefully ya'll can help me out:

1) I had trouble shaving XTG on the mustache area because the razor is of course wider than the width of my mustache area. How am I supposed to tackle this problem and shave XTG there?

2) How do I know I'm not applying any pressure?

3) Whats the blade angle supposed to be when doing XTG? For WTG I just make sure the cap and the blade make contact, is this correct?

Nice work! Once you have preparation and lather-making under control, the step to a DE is not such a big one.

1. I find that the best way to shave around my mouth is to form an "O" with my mouth- this works for upper and lower lips.

2. If your shave doesn't result in razor burn and discomfort, you are doing a good job.

3. Blade angle should be the same no matter which direction you are shaving.

It sounds as if you are off to a good start.
