So I made a very large purchase of Swedish Gillettes to reduce the impact of shipping charges on my sampler packs (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2379). Well, I have more than I need (400). Bridget, at The English Shaving Company, was nice enough to give me a small discount. I'm selling them for $4.25 per pack of 5 plus shippinig. PM me with your order and shipping preference and I'll give you a final price. I'm selling up to 200ish of them right now.
UPDATE: Free shipping (for 48 states) for 4 or more packs. I have 14 packs I want to sell right now.

Yeah, where. I'm interested as I think the Swedish Gillettes are rapidly becoming my favorite blade. I have yet to try the Feathers, Isreali Personnas or Merkurs but:
1. I'm a little bit scared of the Feathers
2. I don't know anything about the Israelis
3. My Long Handle Classic came with a Merkur Blade and it was horrible - then again I was new to DE shaving, probably had piss poor technique and I know they always say to throw that first blade away anyhow.
So, hmmmmmm, maybe my choice will change but that's still a very good price for the Swedes,
so c'mon Joseph.......'FESS UP!

By the time I got done with shipping I ended up paying about $3.00 from Auravita Andy. If you were to order by the gross packs, perhaps it would amortize the high cost of shipping somewhat?

1. Nothing to be scared of on the Feathers - it is just a DE blade.
2. Me neither - haven't gotten to them yet.
3. Give the Merkurs another shot - I like them. After using Merkurs, Swedes, Derbys, and (today) a Feather, the Merkurs and Derbys are shaping up to be my go to blades right now. The Feather is fine as well but I just don't have as much experience with it.
You know you're supposed to throw that blade away...

Got me - I always thought Merkur should throw a 5 pack box of their own blades in with the razor. They do make the blades too...

How did you do this? From Auravita, they're £ 1.85 without shipping. With today's exchange rate, that's $3.46 without shipping. Add in shipping...

Very simply, living in the colonies, NO VAT. Secondly I purchased them when the exchange rate was a 1.78 to 1. approx 2.81 per 5 pack + the awful shipping by Royal Mail..

Not to nitpick, but 1.78 x 1.85 = 3.29. I live in the US, so no VAT for me either. But then it's the shipping that gets ya. If you were to order 20 packs from Auravita, it would be $4.80 a pack. More per pack if you order less.

Glad you are not pickin' nits 'cause we would have some mighty itchy heads...:001_rolle
Try this math on for size:
cal (1.85 / 1.175 ) * 1.78
The answer is 2.8025531915
The terms are the price including VAT divided by the Ratio of the VAT Price to the Price sans VAT Times the exchange rate. Next line reveals the cost. Shipping, while not a fixed cost, came out to about $.20 per pack on 20 packs.

Aha! The price includes VAT. Did not notice that fine point. :blushing:
I went back and went through the order process to see the final cost, without VAT. I'm not sure how you got $.20 for shipping. Where were you shipping to? To the US, it adds quite a bit of cost. If you order 10 packs, the total is $45.40 (no VAT, 1.87 exchance rate), or $4.54/pack. If you order 20 packs, the total is $85.87, or $4.30. Ordering 100 packs, still only gets you to $4.25/pack.
I ordered from a different place, so I didn't have all this confusion.

Here you go. 20 packs shipping was £5.50 . Now 5.50 * 1.78 = 9.79
9.79 /20 = .49
So 2.80 + 49 = 3.29.. No confusion.:001_smile

I paid $6 US shipping for 20 5 packs. The 5 packs cost about 1.75 each. add $.30 to each pack shipping and that is $2.05, half as much as what you are charging.
you can get them through auravita, shipped from england, for 3 a pack.
get them on ebay. rene provided the link. i've bought from them twice and had no problems. the blades are awesome.

why would gillette make two diff. types of platinum blades in the same colored packaging packaged with the same amount? the other ones are 10 a pack and diff. colored.

They are the same , I have inside info from someone all the supersilver blue packages made in various cities in Europe are actually the same blade so its better to call them Euro Gillette instead of Swedish Gillette.

The numbers I've posted are from auravita. If you can get them for 3 a pack after shipping from them, by all means do it. I sure couldn't.
If the ones on ebay are the correct ones, then that's a nice way to get them as well. But there are many people and many threads claiming the only safe way to get the real Swedes are from auravita or The English Shaving Company. I got mine from the Enlgish Shaving Company with a discount for the sampler packs, which is why I can beat the Auravita price.

Very interesting. If so, there are a number of other places to get them (with other cities listed on the back). How reliable is the person?

Really? That would be great if true. The price I stated was on the final page before the press to confirm order button. When you ordered it, did they send you an updated shipping charge? £5 is a lot different than £15.

So I tried to get to the bottom of this shipping thing and emailed Auravita. Here is their first response.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
If you want to know how much you will be charged for delivery, you can find out without submitting your order:
Our system will calculate the delivery charge for you, based on your delivery address and the weight of your items. Prepare your order by placing the products in your shopping basket. Then select the country you want the products delivered to and proceed to the checkout.
The system will display your estimated delivery price, estimated dispatch from our warehouse and estimated delivery time from our warehouse to you. Please note these are estimated by Royal Mail and can be subject to delay.
You can still cancel the order at this stage.
I wrote them back and asked them to verify shipping because it's a difference of around $20. Which I think we could all agree is significant. This is what they wrote back.
Thank you for your email. Unfortunately delivery charges have changed outside the U.K. Instead of being calculated on the weight alone, they now take into consideration the volume metric weight i.e. (width x length x height). Whichever is the greater is now charged.
So that still doesn't answer the question of what the actual shipping is. I find it a little discouraging that they can't give a more realistic shipping charge. You would think they would have this figured out. I can understand a few dollars worth of difference, but $20? I guess you can't complain if they actually charge you less, but I didn't order from them specifically because the shipping was so expensive.
When I run out of the Swedes for the sampler packs, I'm going to order from Auravita just to see what happens. Anyone else have an actual shipping charge from them?

Here's an update on this. I just received an order from auravita and they charged the full £14.52 for shipping for 20 packs. That's what it said on the site, on my invoice, and what showed up on my credit card. Still not a terrible price per pack, but I'm not sure why it costs them that much to ship it.

Oh, if anyone is interested, you'll get the best price if you order 29 packs at $4.20/pack.
