About a year ago I bought a late 70's early 80's Old Spice mug, complete with a half used original puck of soap. There is about a weeks worth of shaves left and I was wondering, what would be an appropriate replacement puck for my Old Spice mug? Not looking to refill with NOS vintage; looking for something currently available.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you care what type of soap? (Tallow, glycerine, vegetable etc.)

Anyways, you can always get the Old Spice scented ones like from Mama Bear's or Honeybee.

Buy whatever soap you favor, use a box grater to shred it, and pack the shreds into the mug. I just did this with a puck of MWF last night, and it worked out nicely.

I just put a puck of Tabac in an Old Spice mug (grated) and it is great.

The grating thing is a great idea too. I grated some Irish Moos into one of my OS mugs and it is freaking awesome. Make sure your grater is free of any debris before you use it...just sayin'

Put a puck of MWF in an Old Spice Mug recently by simply shaving around the bottom edge of the puck with a pocket knife. To get it to seat to the bottom of the mug and over the ridges around the bottom edges of the mug. Letting the shavings fall into the bottom of the mug then placing the puck over the top of the shavings. Worked great.

I've got several different soaps in my OS mugs, ranging from one actual vintage OS soap puck to some grated Palmolive stick. Put whatever you like in there. If it doesn't fit, grate it, trim it, or in the case of melt and pour soaps, melt it!

One note, my oversized black OS mug (they also came in cobalt blue) is the perfect size for the large Cyril Salter pucks without any trimming.

there are a lot of soap pucks that will fit into your mug w/o grateing but grateing doesnt hurt the soap either.i try to get a differnt flavor when i replace the pucks i wear out.good luck and enjoy

Buy some Van Der Hagen Deluxe shaving soap (walmart $1.50) cut it into small pieces, and place in mug. Microwave for short 10 second bursts until melted. Allow to cool for a couple of minutes, and shake a liberal amount of Old Spice Aftershave (or the ever popular Ivy Club / ViJohn Old Spice Clone) into it. Stir.

(the slight cooling is to ensure that the hot soap doesn't disperse the fragrance oils)

Viola VanDerSpice!!

Cheap, and really quite good.

I've got a puck of Tabac in one of my OS mugs, just trimmed and pressed it in, after putting the shavings in the bottom. Prior to that, I'd had it full of Tabac grated from a stick. I've got another with a modern puck of Williams, and a third with vintage OS soap. The rest of the OS mugs hold razors or just show up in random places to annoy the wife.

I primarily keep all my soaps in Old Spice mugs and have used all three methods. I prefer to trim to fit but they all work well. As a example I have list below all the current soaps I have in Old Spice mugs and as you can see it doesn't matter what you use you can get it into a mug. ( Yes, I have a small AD for Old Spice Mugs )

1. Tabac - trimmed to fit
2. C&S No. 88 - trimmed to fit
3. C&S Oxford & Cambridge - trimmed to fit
4. L'Occitaine Cade - trimmed to fit
5. Ralph Lauren Safari - trimmed to fit
6. SCS Savory Rose - trimmed to fit
7. C&E Senna - trimmed to fit
8. Cella - trimmed to fit (really just smushed into mug)
9. Palmolive - grated 2 sticks
10. Arko - grated 2 sticks
11. QED Pine & Cedarwood - melt and pour
12. Mama Bear Hydrogen - melt and pour
13. Em's Place Minty Menthol - melt and pour
14. VDH - melt and pour
15 Of course a mug with a vintage puck of Old Spice

It's guys like DanOK with their outstanding collections that make me think that with my humble store of less than a dozen, I'm just a normal, everyday citizen shaver.

Great list!

10. Arko - grated 2 sticks

Grating arko seems more difficult than just pressing it into place. It's pretty malleable stuff.

I too have an old spice mug with arko, a perfect soap and a perfect mug. In fact all of these old spice mugs have soap in them (as well as a couple of the non-old spice mugs):

I've had great luck with Ogallalla and Mama Bear's in both mugs and empty push/twist deoderant sticks.
Just melt, cool slightly and pour.

Great collection of mugs. The Seaforth and Barbershop are especially nice and are two of my favorites.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone! I'm still not 100% decided and may just wait and see what Santa brings first.

Cheers!

Is the mama bears old spice dead on?

I've never used real Old Spice, but got the Mama Bears version due to it's universally great reviews. I like the scent. Someday I'll find some real OS to try.
