TOBS soaps are underrated IMO.

If you ordered the formulation with the bowl, you are likely going to get some stock that has potassium stearate as the first ingredient. This stuff is easy to lather and very protective and rich. Great soap.

If you ordered a refill, you will probably get the current palmate formula, which will still lather well and provide dense cushion, but it isn't quite the same. Nevertheless, I think these soaps are superior to GFT soaps and generally not as well-reviewed as they ought to be.

So it's down to the scent. The sandalwood soap is a lot like the sandalwood cologne from TOBS, with lots of herbaceous notes atop the wood. Soapy, for want of a better term. I like it.

It's a nice soap - used it this morning. In my limited experience it performs very well for a non-tallow soap and makes very thick, cushioning lather. They call it the 'Sandalwood Herbal Soap' or something and it's true that there is a lot else going on as well - the Sandalwood is part of the scent, but doesn't dominate. I follow it up with the TOBS Sandalwood AS for a properly old school shave.

On the whole - it's good stuff. You'll enjoy it I'm sure!

I love the TOBS soaps. The sandalwood is one of my favorite scents of all time. I find it easy to lather , cushioning, and very slick. I am sure you will love it. I just ordered two refills off of amazon yesterday.

Try the Sandalwood, then order the Avocado. Both are amazing and in my rotation. The best of all (at least to me) is the Jermyn Street. The scent is fantastic.

I bought Mr. Taylor because sandalwood was sold out. It was my first try with TOBS and it is now one of my favorite cream/soaps. I can't wait to try other TOBS scents.

I agree with everyone else; TOBS soaps are way underrated. They lather effortlessly, they are rock hard and will likely last forever, and they are the least expensive of the English soaps. I prefer the scents of my DRH soaps, but I'm going to put my neck out there and say that TOBS lather is the best of the English soaps.

I have seen two people recommend Avocado on here and I'm just about positive that TOBS does not make or sell it. Could you please share a source or link? Thanks.

Also the TOBS sandalwood soap really irritated my face. I lathered with it and it stung a bit then after the shave my face was really red. A real shame because I like the way it smells and lathers.

That's not soap. We're in a soap thread talking about TOBS soaps.

Yes don't get the creams confused with the soaps. I don't think the sandalwood cream smells the same as the soap. I don't know if they make an avacado soap or not, but the cream is pretty awesome if you like creams.
