Hi all. I've been wetshaving for a little over six months now, and have only used a Rooney Style 3 Size 1 pure badger brush (which came with my original straight razor set.) I like it, but feel that it may be a little too "floppy." I'd like to try something a little bigger and with some extra backbone, without breaking the bank.

I've seen some best badgers by Parker at WCS, and am wondering if those might be a worthwhile option. Does anyone have experience with them? I'm pretty much in the market for anything around the $50 mark. Suggestions definitely welcome!

Thanks!

Edit: grammar (sticky x key. LOL)

I cant comment on a parker brush because i have never used them. Not to steer you from badger hair but i can recommend a brush that i have used in your price range that is one of my favorites. The vulfix 404. http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/vu404grbobr.html. Bullgoose is also a vendor here and a pleasure to do business with and so is wcs so either vendor and you will be pleased with the service. Though i dont see the parker brushes sold at west coast shaving.

Oh, perhaps I was on Razor Blades and More. Honestly, I was looking at so many sites, my head was starting to spin. I agree that Bullgoose is excellent, and definitely on my list. I have little experience with boar, but I'll definitely check it out.

ETA: Checked out the 404. Really interested in a boar/badger mix, actually. And the price is definitely right! Thanks for the suggestion.

I used to hate boar until this brush. Its very different it has a high quality solid feel because of the lathe turned handle. It has a perfect balance of boar and badger hair. At first you will notice a difference but once its broke in its about as soft as pure badger and it splays nicely; with a months worth of shaves you will notice several splays. Its great to use with all methods but i love to face lather with this brush.I hear you on the head spin. I have been known to spend hours glaring at the screen at b&b and have 10 shaving web sites tabbed at the same time. I have been on bullgoose for the past 2 hours.

Rather than another badger brush, why not try a synthetic bristle or a boar bristle? Actually, for $50, you could get both.

Pretty much exactly why I made this post, actually. Trying to get some differing opinions on solid, inexpensive brushes. Certainly leaning toward that combo brush now that it's been brought to my attention.

I've only ever tried boar with a cheap-o VDH. It was (is) so stiff I could use it as a knife rather than a brush. Felt it was a bad representation of a boar, but didn't want to set down the cash for something better. At the time, anyway. Now I'd like to see what else is available.

Take a look at Semogue or Omego boars. I have a couple of the Semogue's and I really like for face lathering. Good luck.
