hi all,
my wife and I are visiting New York in April, and I was wondering if there's any good shaving shops?
I want to visit Pasteur's, but in reality, will there be anything there that I can't get online here in the UK?
I also want to visit Art of Shaving as its not that easy to get their stuff here.
is the New York Shaving Company any good? What's their cream like?
anywhere elsecworth a visit?
we are staying in murray hill, thanks for any help guys!

Pasteur's is pretty cool. Sure, you can get that stuff online. But seeing it all on a shelf, being able to sniff the testers... I was flipping out. Just make a list of what you are after before you go. I got a bit overwhelmed and forgot what I needed.

Pasteurs is well worth the trip. While you can find it all online, there is nothing like seeing it all in person. It "takes you back in time" so to speak. Their selection is incredible. Literally floor to ceiling. And I mean literally
Also, since AOS is apparently hard to find in Europe I would suggest stocking up stateside. The cream/AS/Soap are all very good. Don't bother with anything else.

Don't miss the "Oldest Apothecary in America" http://www.bigelowchemists.com/men/shaving.html Great assortment of creams, soaps and aftershaves that few others carry.

I've never been there, but from what I've read, and seen online, this would have been my suggestion.

You also have MIN in SOHO. Small but nice stuff. Service was not the best as my wife and myself were offered no assistance, they were not busy . Maybe it was a off day?

And Bloomingdale's has the art of shaving. Bloomingdale's is also just a cool place to walk around in.

I hear Sephora has some stuff they are all over NYC . I wouldn't make a special trip but the odds are if you have your eyes open you will see one. Bath and Body works has a small selection. Again I wouldn't make a special trip but they are all over the place too.

The manhattan Murray hill is where Pasteur's is...I'd advise going no matter what you can get online. There's a Murray hill in queens that has nothing shaving related, but there is some fantastic Korean food!

Enjoy the city! Pasteur's is well worth a visit. Bigelow's, too -- it's a short cab ride from Murray Hill.

I'll add my suggestion for Pasteur's and C.O. Bigelow (6th Ave, just south of 9th Street). When we're in the neighborhood, my wife and I like to browse at Bigelow's for a while, maybe get some gift ideas for each other.

Pasteur really seems to be working hard to keep a full lineup. Went by today to get some Frasers cream and Clubman talc and saw a bunch of new products since I was there last. Ikon razors, a bunch of Myrsol glass bottles, the new Razorock line, among others. Also had a couple of the la Toja pots. I scored a couple Trumper's cream samples too!

Does anyone recommend one of the Pasteur Pharmacy locations over the other?

Art of Shaving has one location in Grand Central Station, and another on Madison Avenue, in the 40s [probably between 44th and 47th streets]. The one on Madison Ave used to have a facility to provide shaves and may still do so.
Don't forget the tiny but upscale Cambridge Chemists, where you can pose next to the Bader & Blade sign.

My barber just told me about a place on east 18th street right off Kings Highway in Brooklyn. I have not been there yet but he said they carry Dorco and Personna . I will try to get there this week and look around.
