View Full Version : Sheraton revisited

I began the TWS adventure almost a year ago this past Jan. I suffered immediate RAD and acquired many of the available Gillette models, to include a Sheraton. I found it to be one of the most aggressive razors in my modest collection, and although beautiful, not the most comfortable to use. Around August, I began learning to use straight razors (still learning) and only seldom use a DE, I usually use an Injector if not straight shaving. Today on a whim, I revisited the Sheraton. Loaded with an Astra SP I got a great BBS shave, nearly irritation free. The little irritation I had was probably residual from my last straight shave. Moral of the story, if you are relatively new to TWS, don't be too quick to dismiss a razor that didn't perform to your expectations, set it aside and revisit it months later after your technique develops and you have had experience with several other razors, if you're so inclined.

Very good advice!

Incidentally the Gillette Sheraton is perhaps my #1 razor from a collection of 26. I find the shave to be remarkably smooooth. The teeth on the comb seem to be somewhat wide and curved and that may contribute to the pleasure of the Sheraton's shave.

The sheraton is one of my favorites, I find it very efficient without it being very aggressive. Recently I bought myself a second sheraton as a backup razor, just in case.

Great point and agree fully. I had the same experience with the Muhle R41. I gave it a good try but sold it. Now I shave with my Fatboy on “9” and wonder why all my DE’s seem so mild.

My Sheraton is in my top three. I'm also constantly looking out for a backup.

Interesting. I personally find the Sheraton to be the mildest of all my razors. Glad it's working for you. It sure is a beauty!
