is a very slick soap that does not lather real well but works very well nice scent
the clay is key with the slickness.

I love Calani for performance, I just don't get along too well with the scents. To be fair I only tried their unscented soap but that was still too strong in scent...
I didn't have any trouble lathering it though and I really think Calani is the soap to try; top notch performance in my book!

Have used my new puck of Dubai three or four times. Find the lather so far to be average. To me the scent is very similar to Mama Bear's sandalwood and vanilla - slightly woodsy, sweet but not too strong for me.

One thing I've learned from trying many soaps, particularly German ones, is that just because the lather isn't billowing and pillowy doesn't mean it isn't good. I think its a natural response to see a small "volume" of lather and think, oh well this is rubbish, but the reality is that the soap just has different properties and can be slick and cushioning without being a cm thick on your face

I agree GG it may not super lather but it is dense so provides a good cushion along with the slickness which really helps a razor glide smoothly as it passes across your skin

I have most of the scents and find Calani to be superior in tems of lathering, tho it can sometimes require a tad more work. The thing to do is to put a little water on it and let it sit a few minutes before latherIng.
Calani and Dr. Dittmars are my two favorite soaps, with Savon du Midi a close second.

Thank you for the reminder! I fear I may not have used enough water. Will remedy that the next time. However, I face lather; hoping this doesn't make much of a difference.

I like to start a bit dry then add in water till I achieve the desired consistency.

Used Dubai last night with a bit wetter brush and a bit more water. Worked it on the puck longer. Turned out much better! Thanks!!!

I know MdC gets all the love around here, but I'm of the firm belief that Calanai is one of the best soaps currently made. And for those that find the Havana And Dubai scents a bit strong or offputting, try the Oriental Plum.

I love the Simply Soap smell, clean and understated just like the best soaps, MWF or the Valobra stick!
I agree Stubblefield, but it is an American forum and shipping costs are probably a little more expensive than they are accustomed to! Nanny's new hard soaps and Calani's are at least at par with some of the best, and way more expensive, soaps out there!

Just found this thread about Calani Dubai. The scent is easily one of my top five favorite.
The performance of all Calani soaps is simply outstanding, in both slickness and protection. I have to thank Nick for recommending Calani.

I got the "Gentleman" scent a few weeks ago and is my first Calani soap. Put it in an Old Spice mug and seems very fitting there. I get very good lather and a somewhat strong, but pleasent, scent. I'd like to try some of the other scents someday.

After the Dubai scent, I also highly recommend Cadre Noir.

I have been using Calani soaps about 80% of the time for the past few months. I have the honey and plum scents. I really want to restock these soaps (hoping to hit a Royal Shave sale which is when I purchased the first two pucks.) They are fairly pricey given their size and the fact that they are fairly soft. However, the performance is simply outstanding. I love the shave I get with these soaps and they leave my skin feeling great. Someone above mentioned that MdC gets all the love around here (which still baffles me). These soaps are well above MdC in my rotation. Better performance and much better scents.

If you order from the Calani site they're cheaper and more scents are available.

Thanks...I will probably end up going that way. It was about the same at Royal Shave when they were on sale. Have you ordered direct from them?

My first time using the soap a few years ago I had gotten it from royal shave, every purchase after that was made directly from her site. I have almost every scent she offers. Shipping time is about 6-10 days.
