I could get a decent used car for that amount of money.

I remember a BIN listing for a 1-5 bottom dial being made fun of because the price of just under 1k was outrageous.
$1875? That's just mind boggling.

Woah! That was crazy. At first I thought it was a hoax because most of the bidders had zero feedback but the winner has plenty. Must be pretty rare.

I don't think anybody was alerted to the auction because of your post. That razor was actually talked about earlier. The seller had ended the listing early, without explanation at the time, and then it became ok to talk about the auction. But then it got relisted with new information.

Highest single razor auction I've ever seen. Congrats (condolences?) to the winner.

[steward hat on]
Since the other thread was deleted, I'll say it in here: fellas, please remember not to link to live auctions, or even discuss them in such a way that it drives traffic to that auction. If in doubt, wait until the auction's over to comment about it. Thanks.

Notice the winner only made one bid.

I usually only make one bid on eBay auctions myself - my maximum amount, at sniping time. I thought that was how everyone did it :001_smile

It's just insane now. Once you spend that much for a razor, it's almost guaranteed that you won't shave with it. You might as well sit eighteen $100 bills (and three $25's) on your bathroom counter and stare at them.

I know things like this are worth what people are willing to pay, I just slightly question the sanity of the one willing to pay it (unless it's one of you...then in that case, I think you made a lovely purchase).

I tell you what, if I ever run across one in some dusty corner of a lonely antique store, you can bet I'm gonna polish the cr@p out of that daddy-o and sell it right quick!

That's the most I've seen for a single razor. I know Mr-Razor has/had an open comb TTO American Aristocrat, has anyone ever seen one of those sold?

Where do I get a 25 dollar bill, or 3 of them for that matter, that would be rarer than that razor!:001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2:

Wow that is insane, but strange that the seller ended the listing early then it gets relisted and a bunch of people with Zero Feedback bid on it and the winner has lots of feedback and pays a hefty price? I'm just saying :o/

Could be two shill bidders (check the bid history -- only two accounts w/zero feedback), but somehow I doubt it.

A lot of collectors' accounts are known to folks on here, so creating a new, alternate account would be a means of preserving your anonymity. Especially when you are potentially shelling out BIG bucks.

A bunch of people with zero feedback did not bid on it.
2 people with zero feedback bid on it.
The one with the brand new ID does not appear to know how proxy bidding works. Understandable for someone new.

Shill bidding is not all that rampant.
Baseless accusations of criminal activity are frighteningly common.

Makes most of my razor purchases seem modest and affordable.
While this sale is notable, you must admit as more folks start collecting prices will and do trend upward.

...SNIP!

I know Mr-Razor has/had an open comb TTO American Aristocrat, has anyone ever seen one of those sold?

Yes, they sell from time to time. There aren't a lot of them, haven't seen many in the last three or four years. They used to go for $50 (common condition) to $150 (excellent, with case), but I think that prices have advanced considerably in the last few years.

I think that this sale will really bump the 195 prices across the board.

But this was pretty exceptional - I'd almost suggest NOS but would probably not to be on the safe side. I was interested but it just got a little too pricey for me.

This one was described as a 1-9 in the listing, but then they take off on a tangent talking about 1-5 dials. The pictures clearly show a 1-9.

Not even in that good condition when you look at it closely. Of course, if I saw it in the wild for a halfway sane price, I'd buy it.
