Dear all,

Can someone comment between the difference between the Heritage and the Super Silvertip Rooney's? More precisely, there two:

The specs are very similar, except for the hair.

I would like a soft brush, as my face cannot handle hard tips. In particular, I cannot face lather, not even my soft (and floppy) TGN Super Badger restore. So I have to at least start the lather on my palm, but I like to work the lather as much as possible on my face at the end.

If anyone can also comment on how the Rooneys compare to the Thater 4125/1 I 24mm Two Band Finest Silver Tip Fan (http://www.straightrazordesigns.com/shaving-brushes/heinrich-l-thater/heinrich-l-thater-4125-1-i-24mm-two-band-finest-silver-tip-fan) (out of stock now), I'd greatly appreciate.

Thanks,

Well, I had 2 of the 3 brushes you referred to. The Heritage Stubby 2 is very dense, at least mine was. I had one of the older ones.

I recently received a Thater 4292/4 I 23mm bulb. The Rooney was way denser - In fact, it was too dense for my tastes. The Thater seemed a bit light in the density dept when I first received it. It's acquited itself quite well in use, though. They are both soft, but the Rooney, like others have said, was gel like. If you want density, get the rooney - I found it too dense. The Thater strikes that happy medium of density and softness, at least for me.

Hope that helped a bit.

I own a Rooney 1XL, a 2XL, along with a couple of Rooney Silvertip. The 1XL and 2XL, which are the Heritage range, have the softest face feel of any brush I own. That includes my Shavemacs, my Simpsons (Best, Super, and Two Banded), and my Kent. While I don't own the Heritage Stubby, if I were you, I would think about getting one of the XLs. They look to have more of a fan shape knot, that could lend to a softer face feel then the Stubby.

I currently have a couple of 2-band Rooney Heritage brushes and one of the 2-band Thäters. In the past, I've also owned one of the Rooney "super" silvertips. I sold that one because the tips weren't quite soft enough to my liking.

Since tip softness is important to you (and it is to me -- I face lather and my skin can't tolerate scritch), I would highly recommend either the 2-band Rooney Heritage or the 2-band Thäter bristle over the silvertip. They're just that good. :thumbup1:

As for differences between Heritage and Thäter, they are minor. Both are extremely, almost criminally soft at the tips, with very good backbone, and create lather efficiently (the 3XL perhaps less so, since it is so densely packed). If you like soft tips without sacrificing backbone, I think it would be hard to go wrong with either one.
