Got my personalised Rod Neep Soapstone brush on the way now, and have just been given word that the adorable gf has purchased for my birthday a Simpsons Chubby 2 in Super :D
Suffice it to say, I'm not going to find it too difficult to pass on the Semogue 2011 LE brushes with my haul.

Yeah, if you spend more than £35 on men's toiletries they throw in a 100g tube of your choice of cream. I'm not sure how long that special is running or if there is any comparable deal in the states.

A bowl of MdF shave soap, from the savonnier's very shop in Fontrevaud.
Here's an unusual Golf DE shaving set. 3-piece Bakelite with that cool triangular case. Wonder if it was marketed to golfers -- "provides a great shave after your game" or something like that. No obvious maker -- but it has held up extremely well & does provide a very nice smooth close shave.

Golf is a razor brand out of Germany. Also Golf-Asan. They made different razors, one of which is a bakelite razor strikingly similar to a Fasan, which makes me wonder if Fasan isn't just a contraction of Golf Asan.

Today I recieved my 2011 R41, my 39C Sledgehammer slant, some medpreps, TOBS samples, and the free blades that came with my razors!
My first impressions (keep in mind I've not shaved with either yet): they are both absolutely gorgeous!! The Sledgehammer has lots of heft, you definitely know the razor is there, it makes the R41 feel extremely light! I also thoroughly enjoy the knurling on both the 39C is somewhat abrasive, but comfortable, and the R41 is super smooth! I hope they shave as good as they look! I may go try one out soon here if not I definitely will tomorrow!

Ever know something would be arriving in the mail but the mail runs late? That's what happened to me today as I was awaiting the arrival of my new Vulfix 2234 from Phil (ordered on Friday - 3 days, just 1 business day to go cross country). Since the mail didn't arrive while on my lunch I had to wait 5 more hours before holding my new baby in my arms. Well when I got home I tore into my Bullgoose package & there she was, along with a couple new friends. Phil enclosed a pack of Voskhod DE blades as well as a sample of RazoRock XXX soap/cream/croap. To be honest I was a little creeped out about the XXX. I have that on my Christmas list. It's like Phil & Santa are best friends & Santa shared my wish & Phil did his best imitation of Jolly Old St. Nick. Thanks so much Phil, you've definitely earned my business with this first of many transactions!

I was looking at getting something a tiny bit different as a shaving brush. Don't get me wrong, I love my re-knotted Simms and I use that Omega Boar brush sometimes... However, I was curious if I get something with a lower loft and a bigger knot if it would be better as I always face lather now... I will know tomorrow.
I got a Rudy Vey based on the Chubby 1 (24mmx48mm two-band finest). Rudy was *very* quick to make the brush and ship it. I love the faux-horn handle and the grip is fantastic!
I was thinking of buying a Simpson Chubby but then decided, why not spending a bit of money on one of our vendors? I am not disappointed!

On Dec 25 you sneak downstairs before anyone is awake and use them right away. You know, so that you are PRESENTABLE for Christmas - yea, so you look your best for OTHERS. Not that you would actually ENJOY using them, it is for the benefit of greater mankind that you would open them early.:001_smile

It's been a while since I had a score to report, but yesterday I got some goodies from Shoebox Shaving Shop. I would like to commend the owner for his lovely packaging, since each item was wrapped individually inside! IT was like opening a box of presents that came in teh mail!
I ordered:
Melanton Barba e baffi "ultimate beard wash (ordered one, got two since they were discontinued by the vendor)
Botot tooth paste
Borotalco 100 gram bottle
My Nik is Sealed styptic solution
Murray and LAnman Rue cologne "The scent of the darkside!"
Speick shaving cream
Now, I was originally only looking for the Botot and Borotalco in the same place, preferably one of the B&B vendors. However, I spent some time browsing the site, and discovered some other things that "I can't live without." Now, I just need to figure out where I Can get more of the Melanton once I use up what I have...

I purchased this butterscotch & red Made Rite boar brush from eBay, with a plan to restore it and install a new badger knot. However, after seeing it in person, I think it's too pretty to mess with. I doubt that the bristles have ever touched soap. I'm going to remedy that situation this weekend!

Nice looking brush Snargle. Good to hear you're going to use it as a boar brush.
I do cringe a bit when I see people removing old boar knots that look perfectly fine and replacing them with badger. That may be from my slight bias toward boar brushes though.

My previous experience with boar brushes was OK, but nothing special. But that brush was a Semogue Owner's Club, which has a huge knot. Since I'm now 99.9% face lathering, it was just too big. The knot on this Made Rite is 22mm, which seems more reasonable. I cleaned it up last night, and there was still a bit of pig funkiness, so I'm pretty sure this brush was never used before. An overnight soaking in Tabac lather seems to have cleaned up the smell quite nicely.

There is no lid of any sort on it. The lady in the shop said it was better to let it dry out between uses (at least I think that's what she was saying as my French is not that great!). She gave me some hand soap samples that she said had been made that day and recommended we leave them to dry out for 4 months before using them.

Thanks Snargle and Raffijian. All I had around the house was some wenol polish and a microfiber cloth and a little time. Maybe 30 minutes. Gave a bostonian set to the father inlaw and sold my silver and gold sets on BST. Really wanted just the razor for my rotation and am very pleased for what I got at the price point. Was thinking I'd have to get it repated later when purchased, but now think it will do just fine the way she came out for a user. Thanks again, Dave

I stopped by a local antique market today, just wanted to browse around and see if they had anything new in since I last stopped by and I found another Old Spice mug to add to my collection, 6 GEM/Ever-Ready 1912's, a new in box Gillette Tech, an autostrop an overpriced ($30) cased bullet-tip Micromatic and a brand spankin' new William's shave stick. Money being tight I only nabbed two of the 1912's in the best condition, the mug and stick, all for only 12 bucks, not too bad.
I haven't used the soap yet but I am looking forward to my first vintage William's experience. Unless I am mistaken it smells a bit like rose, and I am typically NOT a fan of rose scented products, depending on the lather and strength of the smell...it might end up on the BST.
Heres a post cleanup pic, sorry I didn't snap a before shot.

OMG!!
That shave stick is PHENOMENAL!!
That's the Unicorn of Williams!! Rose scented tallow -- WOW!!!
If you don't like it -- it WILL fly off the BST!!
NICE SCORE!!

Well, patience finally paid off. My haul for today at one of my contacts. My only regret is buying the Wilkinson sword. Not much demand there but it is neat to look at. Its something out of the "otherverse" world. Can't find blades for it anymore I don't think. I am also missing "Friday" blade. The chance of me finding THAT blade is nil. Oh well. He's a good contact.

TR is one of my favorite creams. I've found that by mixing it up with a little water and spoon that it is much easier to face lather with. Don't ask me why it works, but it does.

It really is great stuff. I treat it like a soap and swirl the brush directly in the pot before face lathering. Works great!

I do the same, but the addition of a small amount of water to the jar mixed in seemed to improve my results face lathering. It is the most moisturizing 'soap' or 'cream' or whatever it is that I've used.

Wrote a bit in the General discussion section. So Ill share with you it's general condition here. Mechanically the Toggle is flawless. The adjustment nubers on the dial while a little tight has an audible click on each half & full number. Ther's ever, so, so, so light rubbing on top of the bay doors that to me is without merit. negligible. For this being as old as it is I approve of it;s condition. Asthetically, the gold POPS!. No dents scratches rust etc anywhere. slight rubbing at the tail end of the Toggle from use as expected. Knurling is mint. Very nice.
All numbers are black & bold with the red dot perfect. This time I know better than to use a toothbrush on that area as I did on my last Toggle & washed it away! GRR. That made me so made. I just cleaned the numbers off like an idiot. My other toggle looked like this one. Oh well. A nice score. A nice week for me.
Overall I'd give this 9.7. :001_smile

Let's see...It was a good week for me. First I got a Hoffritz Slant at a local antique shop that I hope to use as trade bait when I'm able, at another local shop I got a Blue Tip Super Speed for $5 and lastly got two off the bay on one auction. One was a 40's SS with case and the other is a 60's Flare.
I went to Germany and Italy last weekend for work.
In Italy, I visited several grocery stores, and found some of the usual suspects (i.e., Palmolive cream, Proraso cream, Malizia Vetvver), but I landed on a jar of Prep, which is much like Proraso Pre-Post. I am kicking myself for not stocking up on Malizia Vetyver and Borotalco!
In German, I visited a Müller Drogerie, and scored some Sir Irisch Moos products (Cream and Aftershave), Speick Body Soap & Shave Stick, Palmolive Shave Stick, no. 4711 Cologne, and Tabac EDT!
Good trip!

Good for you! At the end of the year I leave for Germany for two months, with a one week side trip through Austria into Italy. I hope to stock up, perhaps find something unique in Italy that might be worth importing, and maybe even hit some flea or antique markets for vintage razors. We'll see!

I have been looking for one of these for close to a year now and every one I saw was either out of my price range or just a little too ratty for my tastes. I haven't had a chance to shave with it yet because as usual I had gotten a BBS the morning it arrived and have been busy running around taking care of some things ever since. Today I get a break and can shave, I will see how well this one can mow down 3 days growth.

After getting into DE about 3 months ago, I've really wanted to try some Gillettes. I bought a birth year (64) SS and a 1960 SS a few weeks ago, but both are unused and I want them to remain as such.
So...onto November. I will receive in the next week a 40s fat handled Gold Tech with case, a year unknown SS (these were purchased as a set) and a birth year Slim Adjustable, all in very nice condition. Total payout for all 3 was $26.00 and I guarantee you that they'll all see some action.
Edit: I have decided to give the pristine 1960 SS set to my Dad as part of his Christmas, so I know it'll get used.

Picked you this cased Fatboy c/w instructions & a blade dispenser off a member of a UK Shaving forum. I have had the other case and Spanish instructions for while now. I was going to wait and just get the razor to go in it but as you know things sometimes turn out a bit different than planned, still at least it has a holiday home................which is more that I do. The F.B should shine up very nicely with a bit of effort.

Soap stick holder: $0.50
Eversharp Injector: $1
Durham Duplex: $1
Vintage Skin Bracer Bottle: Free
Thrill of the hunt: Priceless!
The cabinet was a NOS broken box at the local junk auction.
The soap stick holder was in a tray with the silverware. The lady thought it was a salt shaker.
I got the Injector and the Durham at an Estate Sale for a buck each.
The Skin Bracer bottle was in a pile of junk at the Flea Market and the lady said, "Just take it. We're packing up for the day anyway." I poured the rest of my Barbasol Brisk in it and voila!

My eBay 1953 (birth year) Gillette Super Speed came in the mail today.
I'd rate it user+. A few marks on it and it's not quite "bright and shiny" but looks pretty darn good for a 58 year old razor.
The wife has to work today and I don't. The running around shopping is done and the first Bombay Sapphire & Tonic is under my belt and the second one is poured, so I'm headed upstairs to shower and shave with the new Gillette.
(I have always had AD whenever I got into a new hobby and this place is NOT helping my affliction. The kid and her boyfriend were here for Thanksgiving and wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas. I'm emailing her the info on Gillette Fat Boys on eBay as well as info on a Merkur Slant 37C HD or maybe a Merkur 1906 Open Comb. She lives in Indy which apparently has an AOS place in the mall not far from her so I'm giving her a bunch of soap and AS info as well.)

hey folks,
thought i'd put up a couple of pics of the razors i picked up at my local flea market,
this vendor usually has sorry looking $10.00 blades for sale for $75.00 or more, but yesterday i scored both of these for $100.00. not a bad deal ,i'd say.
the cased set are wade wingfield and rowbothem and appear to have never been honed, the duck is also in great shape blade wise but the scales have some stress marks that go pretty deep.
i'm pretty excited to try these out i've wanted a dubl duck for years now

Love the Shavemac. I don't find it too scrubby at all, and the size is just perfect. I'd say 24mm is the sweet spot between practical and luxurious. I have some larger brushes that I use regularly, notably my chubby 2, but the D01 feels great. Just goes to show that everyone has different tastes, one's man scrubby is another man's soft :wink2:

I have acquired things through out the month, but haven't posted till now.
I went a little soap crazy, bought 3 different soaps from Mama Bear's, a KMF key lime that I gave to a friend that is new to wetshaving (it will be replaced soon), and some KMF cool mint. I also grabbed some brut AS, and ASB along with some thayers witch hazel AS ( which I prefer to the regular grocery store variety). Then I got 3 brushes, one is not pictured, it is a wooden handled brush that is very cracked beyond the point of restoration being an option, but it didn't hurt my feelings because it came with my new Grand Turk Old Spice Mug, which I finally found in the wild. I have looked for an Old Spice Mug for a long while now, with no luck. Lastly my Ever-Ready 600N, and Fuller brushes, the lucite on the ER isn't in great shape, but this brush is going to serve the sole purpose of applying Musgo Real Lime as a preshave, The Fuller cost more than I should have paid, but it was just too pretty to pass up, I expect to restore it in the future.

I have just done a couple of test lathers to get the funk out. I was surprised with how soft the bristles were, I was expecting something with a bit more backbone like the Semogue 620, nevertheless it seems like a great little brush. I have been the admirer of the handle for some time, mainly the shape but also the colour. What a wonderful looking brush.

I was on looking on Kijiji.ca and just put straight razor in the search engine. And look at what I found and bought for 35$

This Luna Arthur Emond razor I am not too sure if it is in still in good shape for shaving. A bit of hone wear on the spine. I will get my friend from goodtan to give me his prognosis on this one

This is one is a 6/8 Kropp. Has some minor rusiting and black blemishes here and there but it will great once fixed up.

The last i think it really amazing. He told me got this back in 1990 as a present and used it once or twice but has very little success. I noticed that this was only factory honed and shave ready. For twenty years, this one still looks brand new has some minor water marks. It's a Dorko 5/8

And for the strop, he kept it folded for many years and there are creases at the fold. So I need see if that is repairable it is a DorkoPrima Rindleder. I think Timor and Dovo has similar strops made.
I think this was a pretty good steal, UH i mean Deal:biggrin1:

My friend brought this back for my birthday from a flea market he went to. It is a Valet Auto Strop (unfortunately missing the strop), does anyone know what model or age it is?
Here are some before and after cleaning pics, sorry for the not so great shots, my camera is a piece of junk.
