View Full Version : Spell Check?

Does the forum have a spell check feature?

If not, it would be great to have one. I, for one, find myself writing my posts in a word processing program so that I can make sure the spelling is correct.

Well, that's my humble suggestion.

Thanks-

I use Firefox and it has a build in spell checker... I can even set it on different languages... I am sure it is not perfect but it seems to work reasonably well...

I am not sure if it is usable on programs other than IE.

I use Safari/Mac OS X, which has a spell checker built in. So that problem can be solved by using an operating system/browser combo that supports spell checking. You might be able to activate this feature in the browser you are using. IE needs a plug-in for that. Check out: http://8help.osu.edu/2143.html

I checked, neither Netscape nor Firefox have the spell checker button that is visible in IE... However as I wrote before Firefox has a built in "as you write" spell checker, which works well for me.

Forgive me if you know this already, but have you checked out the Control-Click combo? That pops up a contextual menu with all kinds of useful items. Say, you mistype, but don't know quite what the correct spelling is, just Control-Click on the word, and chances are the correct spelling is being presented, you click on the spelling you'd like and voila! I love the "Speech" function that reads a selected text. It's hilarious! Best - MM

You can get a Spell Checker on Opera as well.

Man do I feel 'wicked stooopid'. I never noticed that spell checker icon before. I don't use Firefox and was doing silly things to spell check my longer posts - like authoring them in an e-mail program then copying the text into the message editor. I guess I should crank the resolution on my desktop down a bit. I'll probabyl find some other interesting things in the message editor! Thanks for pointing this out!
