After using Trumpers exclusively for the past few years I finally used up my previous puck and decided to go for Mitchell's Wool Fat. (Mainly because I liked the crock and lid for storage. After the last few shaves I am convinced that this soap is unbelievable. When I shave, I do a 1 1/2 pass. 1/2 because I need a second swipe at the lower part of my neck to get the hair there. With this I have been getting a bbs on my cheeks neck and upper lip. But no matter the amount of passes I could never seem to get the bbs at my chin. That is until I started using the wool fat. Same strokes same number of passes the only difference is the soap and I am now getting the bbs on my chin which has seemed to elude me all this time. I highly recommend it.

Any tips?? Just enjoy . . . this is one of my favorite soaps. The only thing I would caution is I find it easy to get too much water in the mix, so I start with my brush on the dry side and add water slowly.

I have been considering this as the step up from the soaps and creams that I have now... Especially since it seems to work for people with sensitive skin/allergies... Now to convince SWMBO .

I have the Kent "version" meaning that I have the crappy wooden bowl, but the soap is the same. I love this soap, from the scent to the way it moisturizes my face. I have started to load the dry brush and then lather directly on my face adding water as needed. Works great!

So far, MWF is my all-time favorite shaving soap.

This is a fantastic soap, such a great scent, and a very nice soft feeling after the shave.

Great another soap to be added to my shopping list.
I ordered some from Carbolic about two months ago, and finally, after the mailman lost one package, and I moved in the middle of the transit of the second package, my MWF has finally made it to my door. I am going to have a shower in a few minutes just so I can shave and try this oft-lauded soap out!
update:
I don't think I got the lather consistency quite right on my first try; it was a little dry and I think it could have held more water. So, it wasn't the slickest shave I've ever had, but I'm sure that will improve drastically with a little practice.
However, the MWF combined with my favorite ASB (C&E Sandalwood) had left my face feeling the absolute NICEST it ever has after shaving! The only thing that's come close so far is DR Harris and Skin Food.
Anyway, the MWF was quite nice tonight, and I'm sure with a little lather practice it will be awesome.

I had the same problem my first few shaves with MWF.
Here's what works for me:
- 1 teaspoon of hot water on the puck to soften it up.
- Dump that teaspoon of water into the mixing bowl and load up the brush.
- REALLY go at it and load the brush.
- Hit the bowl for about 30-40 seconds.
- Dump another 1 1/2 - 2 teaspoons of hot water into the bowl (you may want to start with less), continue working the lather in the bowl and watch it explode!
- Enjoy the Shave. :c16:

I’m not sure if you are a lather bowl user or not, but here’s what I do (as if you wanted to know huh )
I use the puck of Mitchell’s like a shave stick. I get my face nice and wet, and then I take the wet puck and rub it all over my face getting a really nice layer of soap on it. Then I take my wet brush, let the water drain out of it, give it a flick or two, and then start building lather directly on my face. I’ve always gotten fantastic lather this way. Always much more then I need, I often feel bad about washing so much good lather down the drain.

I just got a puck a few days ago but haven't been able to get the lather right. Any tips?
I start with a fairly wet brush, and I move it GENTLY over the soap, trying as hard as I can NOT to start a lather, but just to get the brush loaded with AS MUCH SOAP AS I CAN. Then, I might or might not wet the brush tip again, and then proceed to lather on my face. Wet the brush as necessary to get the lather you want. This might waste a bit of soap, but I don't mind.

Not caring about the look of the container, I have the Kent version, less than a fiver direct from Kent on ebay. 'tis good stuff!
I lather straight on the face after loading up the wet brush. Never found any need to wet the soap first.

I received my Kent version too (as well as some Trumpers) and have been using this the last couple of days. Very nice soap!

I just ordered a puck from Lee today. After reading all of your posts I can not wait for package to arrive. I also ordered a Duke #3 and some other stuff.
Watch my swarthy mailman will show with a fresh shave and smile.

I decided to learn this technique also with MWF before using a mixing bowl and I have to say it works well and the soap is so good I keep putting off ordering from Honeybee Spa but maybe I'll break down by Christmas.
