I just realized Ive been shaving with the same noobie Merkur HD for almost 4 years!! :scared:
My bad back doesnt allow me to have a since long 4 pass shave so I usually settle for a quick 2 pass (with grain, then against). Thus Im looking for something more forgiving than the Merkur that I can whip around and not worry too much.
Thanks.

The Muhle R89 is beautifully made and mild. The same head is also used by D.R. Harris & Edwin Jagger. I use my Harris with a Feather blade, which is normally thought of as a bit dangerous, but in this razor I get a great 2-pass shave and only reach for the alum when I shave high. A Futur on a low setting is also a good choice (I keep mine at 2.5 but you might want to be even lower).

Your back may be painful from leaning toward the mirror. If you can figure out a change in position, or a way to use a mirror that
is closer to you, or can extend from the wall, it would help. Here is such an item:

Another suggestion - if you have ever used an electric shaver successfully - is to do a full 3-4 minute shave with the shaver,
then do a final quick ATG pass with lather and a razor. The results will be great, and it goes much faster.

Can you sit down and shave, it might do away with the pain.

I have a terrible back, still awaiting a 3 level fusion from an OJI WC. 20 months already, sighhhhh. ANYWAYS, I highly suggest the EJ89 series. Wonderful, smooth razor, its a winner, especially with feathers loaded in her!!

+1 for the chair suggestion. My folks keep an office chair in their bathroom...my brother and I have bought them many more appropriate chairs, but my mother insists that this one is comfortable and she's keeping it.

This is exactly what happens. I have a bulged disc in my lower back at flares up when I lean forward. That mirror looks like a great idea. I'll look into some of these. Thanks everyone.

Shave in the tub, small hand mirror relaxed in hot water, inflatable pillow behind your lumbar.
