View Full Version : Love Using the Blade Disposal Slot in the Medicine Cabinet - Anyone Else?

I live in a 50s ranch and the medicine cabinet in my Shave Den is original to the house, so it has one of those slots for used blades that I remember in my parents' first house. Whenever I use it I feel as if I've gone back in time. Such a silly pleasure that none of my friends would understand!

I remodel homes to pay for my RAD. You would'nt believe what it's like opening up a bathroom wall after 50 years of razor accumulation. SCARY!

That sounds like an amazing idea. I've never seen or heard of such a thing in the UK, is it an American tradition?

Impressive and very useful and witty!

I bought a metallic piggy bank (Do you say so?), like a soup tin, with a big slot, for hundreds of blades! Just 80 cents of euro.

What are going to do in 150 years when the slot may be filled to capacity? :sneaky2:

Years ago, many hotels and motels had the same thing.

I wish I had one in my house. If we ever move and build or at least re-finish a bathroom I would love to do this.

When I was growing up, it seemed that all in wall medicine cabinets had them. I had them in the houses I grew up in, built in the mid 1900s or earlier. Part of a bygone era.

I remember the razor slot in my parent's bathroom cabinet--now I wish I had one (hmmm...where's my Dremel tool?).

I've remodeled my bath and it is something to see old blades piled up on the plate. None-the-less I use the slot in my one remaining cabinet with one to dump blades if I don't have a plastic dispenser that accepts used blades. As I mostly use Swedes, so far there are not many down the slot!

Wonder what else it does! Cool idea but I really do think I'd much rather use a empty can of soup etc. In fact I just make sure to wrap them in their wrappers and some toilet paper and just toss it in the trash. I would use the soup can or do something else if children were ever around though.

Out of curiosity, have you seen one set up so that the blades don't just fall in between the walls? I would never want blades in the walls (what happens in a terrible earthquake????), but I could see using some kind of receptacle that can be retrieved and emptied (even if only once every 10 years).

Would be interesting to have a decent receptacle, I just can't rationalize doing that to my walls for a tiny bit of added convenience. Not to mention the issue of having someone work on your house who never saw a safety razor. I wonder if their first thought is "damn someone here does a lot of drugs!" Maybe it's my age, but friends who use cartridges seem to assume razors=drugs.
