What happened to the discussion thread for the Treet Blue review (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25225)?

I clicked the link to it and got this message:

VR6ofpain, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

It will be back shortly, don't worry. There is good content in it that we don't want to lose and all the other off topic stuff is being pruned out of it.

I think so. If so, then there should be some type of explanation as to why he was banned.

He has been so helpful and posted so much useful stuff that I can't believe they would ban him! I'd like to hear the reason for the ban, too.

I believe review threads should stick to reviews. The thread got into so much of a kinda reviewing the reviewer.

As far as being banned, I think we should know the thought process of why a member got banned. I mean is like a Hoffa story and then not one talks about it. It is kinda frustrating to have no explanation.

But lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I agree, the explanation often is: it has nothing to do with the post, private messages were sent and the person ignored the admin's requests. This offers no insight on the ban and its reasons. I hope this time, if leisureguy has been banned, we will be given a good reason for that decision.

Gentlemen
Leisureguy has left B&B. Specific details are a private and confidential matter between him and the administrators of this board. Since Leisureguy is no longer here to answer to any posts regarding his situation, out of respect for that privacy, we consider the matter closed.
Thanks for you understanding.

I am still having trouble with this, i.e., the moderator throws an accusation, locks the thread, then the accusee gets banned??? Something Wrong Here! Very Wrong!

I was unaware of any accusation having been posted, but I may have missed something. In fact I'm sure I'm missing something because I know nothing about what transpired between Leisureguy and anyone else.

At the end of the day though, anyone who wants to do so can certainly email Leisureguy, he has a strong presence on the web, and he will respond or not as he sees fit.

The moderators have elected to treat whatever happened as a private matter, and to respect the privacy of the people involved. Good. Privacy is a rare commodity these days and those who respect it are rare. I take off my hat to the moderators for the respect they've shown in this regard.

For myself, Leisureguy made a very valuable contribution to this site and with his good advice to my life. And that alone has earned him the right to have his privacy respected.

Just an observation from a new guy here: before joining this forum, I've never seen so many deleted posts, locked posts, or banned members. The "private" aspect is odd too, presumably someone has sent some pretty rough PMs out there! Outside of kiddie porn, hard to see what can be so offensive in PMs...

As for the Treet posts, there was nothing in that particular post by Leisureguy that was offensive (I would add "to me", but really, nothing offensive to anyone). If anything, I thought he was being too nice! Such as in response to the comment about how it is easy to understand how people could like this blade because men used to use shells to scrape their faces, or some such (given he liked this blade this was a direct assault against his opinion yet he didn't respond in kind, just stated "YMMV").

Hopefully Leisureguy comes back, as I liked his perspective on shaving. He certainly doesn't deserve to be banned for anything I've seen in public forums. He truly seems like a polite, friendly guy that has a passion for shaving. The type of person that should be banned from a shaving forum!?

Like they say on the home brew forum I visit, "Relax, have a home brew." Maybe we can build on a similar theme here, like "Relax, go shave..." Well, that may not be quite the same but something to work on...

This is what astonished me. The most (in my opinion only), inappropriate post was made by the moderator when he called Leisureguy's integrity into question. Then he locked the thread. If a moderator feels the need to lock a thread, he should do it without first fanning the flames.

I have nothing bad to say about Leisureguy, but I think our moderators are reasonable guys who do a great job. They do step on toes occasionally, which can be a good thing. I don't come to B&B to participate in flame wars. If a post is mean-spirited, it should be deleted.

How many people have been banned from this site? It would be interesting to know the exact number, unless it is considered a piece of secret information.

There's a small basic set of rules, if you're out of line you'll get spoken to and get plenty of warnings before anything happens. No one is getting banned for a single post.

To the person who felt is necessary to send a spam message about this situation to my private and unmarked e-mail box which is not listed in my profile - do not do so again.

Why you felt to be anon yet try to bring me into this mess which I frankly have no expressed (on the forum by post) interest in, I fail to see why you would think my interest would sit on your side versus the mods when I have never stated such.

I hate spam, quite a lot. I furthermore hate when people think they have something important to say but do not have the backbone to stand up for their own words in public - especially on matters relating to a Gentleman's forum.

The means of contacting me are quite clear - PM - as everything else is marked private. Please abide by my preferences.

Thank you, not for the spam, but rather from here on out abiding by my request to use PM only.

Raising a very suspicious eyebrow, I find your comments remarkable for only being around such a short time. What is your stake in this?

In fact I found it to be quite a leap from my simple technical question about where the thread went to, "I wonder if this means that leisureguy has been banned?", posted by joch. I was wondering how anyone could possibly get from here to there without knowing something I did not.

I have tried to be as pleasant a member as I can and am not prone to casting accusations, but I think joch specifically has some explaining to do.

Joel: That is a very good explanation, and I'm sure the mods had good cause. But, if Leisureguy's transgression had to do with not following rules, agreements, etc..., rather than for specific posts, I don't really understand why the Treet discussion thread is locked for editing (which was the original question in this thread). It's one thing to ban a member, quite another to edit content (with exceptions for offensive or vulgar comments). We're all adults here, with varying opinions -- if Leisureguy had something controversial to say, I think it should be allowed to stand in the forum archives.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to think someone was banned when it looks like the profile no longer exists. When I read this post of yours, it seems you're just trying to pick a fight. There's nothing to explain. Tons of forums on the internet are just like this one, and maybe Joch has experienced something similar in the past when clicking a name, only to find out later that the person was banned.

But I'm just a newb, so I don't know much. I'm not trying to start a fight. Closer to trying to stop a fight from being picked. Unless that is picking a fight....

I sniff my Aqua Velva all the time. I usually put it on before bed, just to smell it. I sometimes smell my English Leather just to remind me how extra good Aqua Velva is. (I can't stand the smell of English Leather. I never used it, but my brother gave it to me for free because he hated it. I think our parents got it for him.) I don't care for that newer light blue AV in the plastic bottle, though. I sniff the darker blue and sometimes the musk. And I often sniff my 25.6 ounce bottle of Brut Cologne.

Since you have nothing to do with anything else in this thread, I can only assume you stumbled upon it by searching for "sniff." :biggrin1:

If you read my posts in the context of the entire thread and the other thread on this subject, you'll see a pattern. I am usually prone to giving the benefit of doubt, but this time the smell was too rotten.

In view of the fact that you are a late comer to the discussion I can see why you might think the way you do. For anyone who knows how I have participated in this forum, they will know that I don't make a habit of posting like this.

For everyone else who feels the need to specifically question me on why I posted my suspicions, I will simply refer you to follow my posts in their context and there shouldn't be any need for further explanation.

It is possible that newer guys on here (myself included) just don't get the banning? Is it possible that others may disagree here without having alterior, sinister motives? Some of us newer guys may also believe that most people are generally good people and aren't just out to make a buck by false promotion or trying to sell more books.

Is it possible that Michael didn't realize he was violating the terms of usage here? On his blog he has stated that for his next version of the book he has pulled the few passages quoted from B&B so it is possible he was being responsive to requests to take these out. Is it possible that B&B takes a more stringent view of the nature of posts, than say other forums or copyrighted material that could have reasonably led to this misunderstanding? (I thought anyone could quote someone else with proper notation, but I'm not a lawyer.)

Not sure about the links in his signature. Kinda trivial to me. How many books and how much money can he really be making here? I see the book as more of a service to others wanting to learn, kind of like this website. But then again, I assume people are generally good.

Joel clarified to me that it wasn't his posts, which is what confused me initially. Why he was banned just right after the Treet post must just be coincidence with other issues. Which ironically he seems to have tried to fix...

What amazes me most now is how people seem to suggest that Michael truly did something evil and wrong here. And then to suggest anyone that supports him is a fake member? Come on!

On the sniffing subject, while I quite like the aroma of AV in the glass, I also like my original EL in the glass decanter. I wish Skin Bracer still came in the dimpled glass bottle BTW.

However, I really enjoy sniffing my Floid Blue in its unique glass bottle!
