So I like the idea of a birth year razor...but i'm not finding any really alluring special razors from 1978 (Y code). The super adjustable has the black bottom :001_unsur
Any suggestions?
You may be able to find a 3-piece tech or a black handled super speed. Aside from those, the black bottom SA is the only other choice that I know of (it's still a great razor though).

Just got my birth year x4 1977 suPer adjustable. It's a great great razor. Don't let the plastic base plate keep you away.

+1 I've got an 80' SA with the plastic base, and it is a great razor I wouldn't rule it out just because of the plastic base it actually looks more like composite than anything.

Ok, you guys have convinced me...Since i think they only made the SA and the black handled SS, I think I'll just get one of each :)

That sounds like the best option!

I've found an auction listing for a new, sealed 1978 Super Speed...the seller is asking $70. Having never priced anything like this out before, I would greatly appreciate some guidance - is this a good price, or steep?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds a little steep to me, but it IS new in box. Plus, if its your birth year razor, its more of an emotional thing, so you might be willing to pay that much or more.

Thanks for your response! Right after I posted, I remembered my good friend Google, which led me to this thread where someone bought an identical NOS Super Speed for $39 shipped (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/264510-1978-Gillette-Super-Speed-Unopened-package-advice). However, I couldn't totally resist, so I offered the guy $50. It would be pretty cool to have a birth year razor that's also shiny & new!
