I recently picked up the brush in the middle from another member here. When I saw it I fell in love with the handle and was thinking of restoring it with a badger hair knot. In his BST post the member mentioned it was quite functional so when I got it I thought what the hell I'll try it out. All my brushes since I started wetshaving have been badger hair and I had never even tried a boar. I always assumed boars would feel significantly rougher on my face so they never really interested me. I had read a post where GreekGuy mentioned boar brushes being a better bang for your buck choice for soap users.
With that being said I have to say I was quite surprised by the results. I picked one of the hardest soaps I own that I usually have to work at to really load my badger brushes with,Trumpers Violet. My reasoning was the boar bristles would chew through even the hardest soaps. And it did. It loaded up really good and was a lot softer than I expected. Witch I'm sure has to do with the fact that it was already broken in. It produced a great lather with enough for 3 passes and I went back to the puck for the last pass. Very nice.
So will I convert to only boar brushes? Probably not but it definitely has me thinking about adding some boar to my den. (As if any of us needed any more brushes:001_rolle)
