Eons ago, some time when I attended a grade worth only of one digit, the topic covered was antiquity. Here it was that I saw a drawing of the interaction of two men. One was Alexander the Great, the other, I believe, was a Greek philosopher. As I recall, Alexander asked the man what he could gift him with, but the man only replied that he should get out of the sun's way, since he was shown enjoying the sun, whilst living in a barrel.
My curiosity would like to know who this philosopher is. Any help from history buffs would be appreciated.
Gracias. :001_smile

Even though you would think I should know this . I am not 100% sure but I think the answer is Aristotle as he was Alexanders mentor .
I could be wrong but that is my guess

In his youth, Alexander had Aristotle as a tutor.

Diogenes of Sinope. 404-323 B.C.E. Historical lore has it that Alexander would take pleasure in giving something to the Philosopher. Diogenes' reply;"I want only one thing alexander. You stand in front of me, and your hiding the sun, so, do not take from me, the thing you can not give to me" Hope this helps!!

An addendum to the story:
After Diogenes said what he said, one of Alexander's soldiers drew his sword and was going to kill the old philosopher because of his rudeness to Alexander.
Alexander stopped the man, saying, "Let him be. If I hadn't been born Alexander, I would've liked to have been Diogenes."
Alexander was obviously an all or nothing kind of a guy.
