View Full Version : Is TOBS AS any good?
Hey all, I've been using TOBS Mr. Taylor's and Eton College creams and I love their scents, I just wish they lingered... and that's how I get to AS's and ASB's. So my question is: do the TOBS Mr. Taylor's and Eton College AS's and ASB's smell like their respective creams? Thanks in advance :001_smile

I have Mr Taylor as and to me it is not an exact match to the cream but still a very nice scent. I can also recommend the Victorian Limes or Traditional as great TOBS aftershaves.

I've used their St. James and Jermyn Street in both cream and AS splash. Those smell exactly like their respective counterparts. I believe most TOBS lines say true to their principal scent except when it comes to their EdT or cologne. Those aren't normally right in line with the rest of them.

The scent doesn't linger for you? Myself I can practically skip the AS they are so strong, but in a good way. I feel you almost need to have the matching AS or else deal with clashing. Like Brad, I've tried Jermyn St. It was the lotion, which is somewhere between balm and splash, a little goes a long way BTW, and it was very true and potent.

Whether Mr. Taylor's cream smells like the ASL was widely discussed here a year or so ago. The consensus was that the cream and ASL did not smell alike. From what I remember from the discussion, Mr. Taylor's cream and ASL had a T&H cream and ASL equivalent. If you want an ASL to match Mr. Taylor's cream fragrance, there is a corresponding T&H ASL; and if you want Mr. Taylor's ASL scent, there is another T&H cream that matched it. Which T&H cream and ASL paired with which Mr. Taylor, I cannot recall.
Aside from that, my favorite TOBS ASLs are Mr. Taylor's, #74 Victorian Limes, and Sandalwood ... in that order. You cannot go wrong with Mr. Taylor's ASL it's a great fragrance despite not exactly resembling the cream; in fact, I think it smells even better. #74 Victorian Limes is another great scent, which has a natural dry lime scent and just a small touch of powder. The Sandalwood has strong a sweet sandalwood scent with hints of florals and powder.

I have to disagree on Victorian Lime 74, but only because of a personal preference. To me, it smelled like all the kamikaze shots I drank in college (and there were countless ones I drank). Needless to say, the smell was reminiscent of the not so fun post-kamikaze hangover. Again, though, total personal preference.
TOBS Sandalwood, on the other hand, gets a thumbs up from me. That's the only other one I have tried (got the both as samples from QED).
Sooo... Has anyone used TOBS Eton College AS?

It's a good quality splash. IMO, not as moisturizing as D.R. Harris splashes (none of TOBS are for me) but still a solid performer. I personally didn't care for the scent as it was too powdery for my nose.
