I just had the most excellent shave

I have been feeling a bit ill, and haven't shaved since Wednesday. About 6PM today I started feeling better. I was reading B&B, rubbing my face, and Talibeard's sig line went through my head (I must to the barber's, monsieur, for methinks I am marvellous hairy about the face). Well, it is the weekend, and that means Arlington. I grabbed the EJ89L, as it has been getting neglected in lieu of my 1912. I grabbed my bowl of sample blades (I face lather now, so that is what I use it for) and noticed the unopened pack of Wilkinson Swords. What the hell? May as well try them. First pass (XTG)- incredibly smooth. Second pass is XTG the other direction on the face, ATG and tight on the neck. Now to the third- normally on the neck I do an ATG loose. Normally when I do this, I hear the last remnants of hair going. I hear nothing. I feel my skin- BBS. I never get this in two passes on the neck. I can't wait to try this blade again. For reference, Gillette 7O'Clock yellows are my favorite DE blade, followed by Shark and Voshkod.

I had pretty good results with the Wilkies too! I also think that when you have more than usual growth, it just seems to cut better. Couldn't attempt to 'splain why, it just does! For me, I can't shave a darn thing next day, but day 2 is amazing.

Glad to hear you are feeling better and to top it off, you got a nice BBS shave ... with Wilkies!

I like the fact you found a new use for your shaving bowl - sampler holder. I use my VDH shaving bowl as sorta lid for my 4" wide mouth shaving mug!

I will. Their reception here is so-so, but I am glad I tried them. Maybe a case of YMMV. I may have to put the 1912 to the side for a while.

read them in that order. you won't find great amount of detail on the subject of blades, but it's a good starting point

I too used to bowl lather and now my bowl holds EdT samples and blades as well. I also find that I get my best shaves with 2-3 days stubble - maybe it's the extra care taken or maybe it's the extra stubble but it's great to shave after a brief hiatus.
