as an aftershave? seems weird to me.

After the aftershave dries. It's especially nice on the neck and helps prevent collar chafing.

I use it after showering but not after shaving. Particularly in the summer, I find it cooling and it prevents that sticky sensation.

+1. It can also be used without aftershave on your dry face. Sprinkle some in your hand, rub it between your palms, then run your hands over your face and neck. It leaves your skin very smooth feeling, and can also mask razor burn.

good in the nether regions, too.

That made me laugh! And brought back memories. When I was in the Air Force in the Philippines and Okinawa? Pinaud talc, you guessed it, in the nether regions! I almost forgot.

I use it to improve my grip on my razor, much like a pitcher in baseball uses a rosin bag.

When you ride to work everyday, and it is 105, you do what you can to keep it cool (including wearing $20 underwear from Under Armour)

Talcum powder in the nether regions (as the thread seems to prefer to call it :D), across my chest, and around my neck and jawline after the AS has dried. Especially on a hot Texas summer day.

I believe the function of talc in the shaving process was/is to take the shine off of your face after a shave. It isn't made to be used in lieu of an actual aftershave product, but it looks like some gents do.

+1 Nether regions. I have a sometimes sweaty job.

Another question along the same lines. Do any of you guys use the soft brushes that barbers used to use to apply talc to the neck area? That might be nice too.

One thing to consider with the talc: you don't want to breathe in the dust. It is a pulverized mineral similar to asbestos and it can cause health problems. I always just hold my breath during the dusty moments of using talc.

I found them at the following site: http://www.appletonbarbersupply.com/store/shopexd.asp?id=1457

I've often been tempted because I remember the barbers when I was a kid, a long, long time ago, used these and I always liked it.

I sometimes use it as an after-aftershave, applying it with the synthetic Body Shop shaving brush.
Almost daily on my feet, armpits and the testicular area.

Yes, I frequently use talc(Gold Bond, yeah!) on my chest and "nether regions", but I think I'm keeping it off my face.

Will have to grab me a bottle of Pinaud talc some time, for those times when you have slight rash due to a bad skin day...nice to know some thing to help mask my goof ups lol. This is why I love this forum...SO much knowledge. One day I hope to teach my kids the fine art of shaving with the best stuff on the planet, not plastic junk and goo. However my oldest is almost one year old now and a girl, and we have our suspicions the one that's on the way due around St Patricks day...is a girl also. Oh well...they got legs and underarms lol, I'll be able to teach some thing I suppose.

This thread just reminded me of something. Question about talc from England. In the early 80's, shortly after I married my beautiful Brit, her sister and husband came over to visit. He used Burberry talc in a brown metal can. As they were leaving he gifted me a can of it and I absolutely loved it. Is it still available, and if so, where would I get it? Thanks

I need to be very careful when applying it as an aftershave. It gets really smooth, but it could show easily, you can get a 'powdered' look.

Most talc intended for use on the face after shaving have a "neutral" or "flesh" tone, to minimize this.

The finale on a haircut as a kid for me too! Unless, the barber wanted to offer you a little touch of after shave and really make your day!

This is how it was explained to me many, many shaves ago.

I too use it on my nethers, armpits, neck, and chest. I use a Diane brush, which I think I got from Amazon for less than $10. It's the one with the wooden handle, and is made of horse hair.

For face use, I'll apply just a touch to a folded up barbering towel, and just lightly pad my face down, just towards the tail end of AS drying.

I love Clubman!

Aha. I've only tried "regular" talc on my face.

I tried using talc instead of aftershave balm for a while, using a cheap kabuki brush (hey, it's the right tool for the job, you don't need something the size of a yard broom!)
It works, but I don't think there's any advantage over balm. But if you needed to get rid of shininess it should be worthwhile.
If you are willing to mess up a towel or cloth, use that to apply the talc (spread talc over towel, pat on face.)

I like rajagra's suggestion of a kabuki brush - makeup brushes specifically made for applying power-based products. Like he said, it's the right tool for the job.

Plus, they look like little shaving brushes! :001_smile I'll have to give one a try.

I like the scent of the Clubman talc more than the aftershave, not as over-powering to me. Classic old fashioned barbershop type scents.
