View Full Version : Razor stand stability - Col Conk stand w/ EJ DE89

I learned that if i hang my EJ 89 razor on the Col Conk Chrome Evernice stand by one of the 'raised rings' on the razor handle, it is much more stable than hanging it by the razor head in the traditional way. I slip the handle onto the hooks of the stand between the two rings at the top of the handle (in the space where EJ engraves their name), and it rests on the top ring.

I'm brand new to DE shaving. Got my new EJ razor, hung it on the Col Conk chrome stand along w/ the brush. It was stable enough just sitting there, but when I moved the stand, the razor slipped right off! Tried it again, sure enough, off it came. Took very little force for it fall.

When I hang it by the "name ring" at the top of handle, it stays on the stand much better than when hanging it by the head although the razor swings around a lot more. It's a bit counterintuitive, but the ability to swing freely is what keeps the razor on the hooks.

An engineer could probably explain the physics of it better, but essentially, when the stand is jostled, if the head of the razor swings outward, the tail of the razor swings inward, and the center of balance stays in one place—over the hooks. Likewise, if the tail swings out, the head swings in, and it stays balanced. I can tip the stand to a far greater angle when the razor is hung the new way than when it is hung traditionally.

I guess I'm just lucky that the hooks on the Col Conk stand are the right size to fit around the handle of the EJ razor, but narrow enough that they catch the raised ring.

I know, this won't revolutionize the world of DE shaving:001_smile, but I've learned a lot from the B&B forum. I did a search on this and nothing came up so thought I'd give back a little, if only to those folks who also have EJ razors and the Col. Conk stand.
