Due to some time restraints last night I decided to use some Proraso for my shave, but instead of using a brush I just put a dab in the palm of my hand and smeared it all over my face. I worked it well into my stubble and was able to work up a psudeo lather with just my hands. I then used my 38C and did a fantastic 2 pass shave. I was really surprised that the shave was so good since I didn’t use a brush. Is Proraso formulated as a brushless cream that just happens to work well with a brush?

I have found that this works with many creams that are made for brushes. Again, its more about technique. You could get a fantastic shave with hair conditioner if your technique is solid.

Clay,
Proraso is very much a brushless cream. I think it even says so on the tube, but I am at work and am having to go off of my memory.
I never tried it that way. I enjoy using my brushes too much.
Mmmm. I can smell the Proraso now.

Yeah, I normally use my brush, and won’t be giving up on them anytime soon. I just was in a rush last night and thought using the cream brushless would save me some time. The extra nice shave was just a bonus. I’ll have to keep this in mind for those days when I don’t have much time.
I also have some Taylor’s Avocado that I love; I wonder if it could be used in the same manner? Anybody ever try it?

I have tried Taylor's Avocado without a brush. Worked quite well. Just a little lighter than Proraso I believe.

I don't know about other creams, but when I built up Proraso lather with a brush it takes me 30 seconds. So, I don't see how it can really save that much time. Ofcourse, maybe my lather technique is weak, and I need to go 2 minutes for the ultimate lather, but so fat 30-40 seconds works good for me.

Its not just about lather time. Getting bowl, cleaning brush, other things take time other than just lathering.

When I was cartridge shaving, I used Florena cream without a brush. Did that for years. Worked good enough, but I'm happy to be back on the brush.

You may have a different box from mine:
"(...) Insaponate e massaggiate il viso con l'aiuto del pennello Proraso (...)"
apply lather and massage your face using the Proraso brush
