Had my first head shave with a DE last night and it was my best yet. Used my slim set to 4 with a Crystal blade and Speick stick and took 2 passes. Excellent result, no nicks, no razor burn, no bumps today.. I'm quite pleased.

I've been shaving the noggin for a few years here and there, mostly thru the summer. Have always used cartridges in the past and almost always came away with at least one weeper and a few bumps the next day. Even tried a Headblade once..ONCE. Horrid little beast!

Why did I wait so long to try the DE? I had been thinking it would be difficult to shave the back of my head blind or to maintain proper blade angle with my hand behind my head. It really wasn't difficult at all. The razor provides such good auditory feedback that it really didn't seem any more difficult than shaving my face.I must say that building a nice warm lather across my scalp wasn't unpleasant either :) Now I'll have to resist the temptation to carry my shave around my head each time I shave my face..

Cheers

Cool! Once in a while when I get the ol' high and tight Ill come home and jump in the shower and Ill take a pass around the melon from just above the ears down to my neck. It feels so nice having a smooth face and head!!

I love the headblade, but have switched back to the fusion until it wears out. I am working up the courage to use my DE for my scalp. I did the parts I can see with a DE once, no weepers, but fearful of the unseen. I may have to work out a mirror system or just go for broke. Skin heals.

Wow good work, I don't think I would have the bollocks

Strange. I'm an advocate of cart head shaving as DE takes far, far too long and for me the results are no better. I guess I must just have really tough skin on my head eh?

I go through phases of keeping my head shaved, though my sister usually does it for me - I have all sorts of weird bumps and shapes around my noggin and it's risky doing it myself (in fact, I should probably keep it hidden by hair really, to avoid scaring dogs and children).

After a hairy phase, I sometimes like to get a barber to start me off with a straight razor shave. But I did start it off myself with a Merkur 1904 open comb once, after about 6 months of hair growth. It was fun taking off great swathes of hair, but the blood did start to flow pretty quickly. And though I ignored it and carried on, and was pleased with the result (looking from the front), my family were less impressed by my hacked and scabby head.

I had a couple of business meeting to go to the next week too, but people were polite enough not to mention the state of my head. (Maybe it scared them - "Wow, with a head like that, this guy means business" :001_smile )

If you can make the headblade work, you have nothing to fear from the DE. Mirrors couldn't hurt, but with light strokes and a bit of concentration it really isn't hard. If you do try it, best of luck!

I got some major blood flow going with a mach 3 on one occasion when I had a couple months growth to deal with. Since then, if my hair is more than a week of growth, I knock it down with my hair cutting clippers ( Wahl Peanut ) with the blade guard removed before I switch to manual mode.

Couldn't resist having another go this morning. With only a light growth since my last shave I only needed a single pass and it was over so fast I barely had time to enjoy it. Still, there is nothing like a whole head Proraso/AV menthol chill on a hot morning :)

x2. I find it much easier to keep a proper angle to get a close shave with a cart. I've done it with a DE and get great results, but it takes me about 3x longer than with a cart. I'm going to keep using my Fusion until I run out.

I have been using my Merkur 33C for head shaving for about a month now. Had one bad episode where I scrapped some skin and bled pretty good. Let it heal and tried again. I think I had used a bit too much pressure where I should have used none.

The headblade works great once you find the right cartridge for your head, much easier than a Mach 3 or the like. I have used the DE before and although it was not as difficult as I thought it would be it takes way too long. I shave my head daily so I will stick with my headblade for shaving my dome.

Have multiple headblades, like the sport. I have steered away from cartridges because of the cost of the fusion. I think I should check the cost of the compatible cartridges for the headblade and see. The thing is when I use cartridges on the back of my neck, I get massive irritation and bumps. When I used the DE, I have less to no irritation. But as things go, your mileage may vary :) I really love the headblade. Time to check for myself tomorrow.

This is an old trick for keeping the 'cut fresh through the week; then blend with an electric razor. Keeps that "fresh from the barber" look longer.

During the summer I like a shaved head and I found that my Braun Syncro 7570 allowed me to shave my head daily without suffering any nicks or irritation plus my head was bbs. If I wet shave my head I like to use my Quattro with the Titanium blades.

I use the Wilkinson Sword Super II plus blades from Walmart, they run about $3 and change for 10. I had good luck with the headblade triple blades but they were way too expensive and clogged up a lot. Not such good luck with the headblade double blades and some other generic sensor blades I tried. The bumps and irritation could be from using too much pressure or shaving in a direction that doesn't work for you. I go ATG on my whole head but I have a friend who can only go WTG or he has the same issues with bumps and irritation.

I can get good results from the Feather stainless but I still can't best the head-shaves I get from the gillette guard.

Interesting.

My first headshaves were with the HB. Got a couple of nicks here and there, but for the most part, I used the HB to train myself for moving to the Fusion.
My biggest complaint on the HB was I was always getting nicks above my ears (where my shades' earpiece lays) from the ATG pass.

I probably used the HB for a month before moving to the Fusion that I had recently switched to from the Mach-3 for my face.

Now I've made the transition to the R41 for my face. Going to give it a while before I go to the DE for the noggin, but it's cool, I've still got 8 Fusion carts and a bottle and a half of HeadSlick left.

Interesting... I have been wanting to shave my head for a while but haven't. I use a clipper w no guard on it, but have never ben brave enough to shave. Tips or thoughts on how I should proceed?

Just do it.
Same as your face... no pressure.
Maybe start with a pivoting head cart until you get used to your "hair mapping"
