I know it's a reformulated cheap brand but dang it is my favorite gin, Plymouth is good straight but too flowery for g/t and martinis. Tanqueray is (IMO) not as good as it's price suggests, Hendricks is cucumbery goodness but again not as good for martinis IMO. As for Gordon's, New Amsterdam just seems a bit better to me. Best of all $15 for a 1.75L bottle!!!!

Im a big Gordons fan, its my go to cheap Gin. I will have to check out New Amsterdams. Thanks for the tip.
I only use Gordons in G&Ts or G&7up. Do you also use New Amsterdam in martinis and the like?

Every time i seem the name New Amsterdam i think:
Why were my ancestors that dumb (or ignorant or ... No just DUMB) to trade New Amsterdam. Life would have been so much easier speaking Dutch all around the world

Martinis especially, I was hoping that Plymouth would make a good martini due to it being good fairly straight but IMO the floweriness just doesn't seem to go with Vermouth well.

I wasn't crazy about the citrus taste of New Amsterdam. It gets lost in the G&T since I make mine with a slice of lemon. I like to taste some juniper so I prefer Bombay or Beefeaters. Gordons is my preferred cheap gin and it's $3 less than New Amsterdam at the store I go to.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I also found New Amsterdam very citrus (orange) tasting. That might be a plus for some drinks... New Amsterdam had a recommended drink they called a "Park Avenue" that I thought was tasty but I didn't care for it in a Martini.
I pay ~$17 for a 1.75L bottle, and for the money, I feel New Amsterdam can't be beat.

Never heard of a Park Avenue before. I just looked it up and made myself one, it is a tasty drink.

I'll agree about New Amsterdam being far and away the best cheap gin out there and extremely versatile as well. I still prefer some of the others side by side (Hendricks and Boodles primarily), but because of the significant price difference I usually buy New Amsterdam.
