Hi all!
Received my Merkur 23C today. Ordered some Merkur and Derby blades with it. Did my first ever shave with a DE razor rightaway. Results? Not too bad for a first time IMO. Didn't even cut myself.
Will have to buy some shaving soap and a brush soon...
Question for long-time DE shavers: do I remove the blade after shaving or do you leave it in after having rinsed the razor? Thanks!

Welcome.
I rinse my razor off, dip it in Isopropyl alcohol and leave the blade in. No need to take the blade even if you don't use the alcohol.

Welcome! I usually take the blade out, but for a long time I didn't. I don't think it matters much either way.

Hi Dutch Newbie! Is your name really Beftus? That's a new one on me!
Question for long-time DE shavers: do I remove the blade after shaving or do you leave it in after having rinsed the razor? Thanks!
As you can see, habits vary from user to user.
Since I don't use the same razor from day to day, I remove my blade, rinse it and the razor, and let them dry separately. I once got some corrosion on a Merker from leaving in the blade and not rinsing it well enough. I'm sure you will find the method that works best for you.
Glad that you got a 'not too bad' shave for the first time, AND with no cuts!

Good question about taking the blade out. Being new I wondered myself. I don't, but feel maybe I should. But I do loosen the head and rinse the razor real good after each shave and then inspect and I don't see anything left in there. When I change my blade, I do a major cleaning.
Oh Yea, Welcome!:001_smile

Hey, another Dutchman. Welkom.
As for your question, I personally just rinse the razor with the blade inside and let it air dry.
Good luck.

Welkom.
I rinse the razor after shaving and leave the blade in. When I switch blades I give the razor a good cleaning before putting in a new blade.

Normally, I rinse the razor, then shake it off & let air dry.
When I change blades - after 3 uses - then I use a toothbrush & dish detergent to wash the razor components good, rinse, wipe dry & then let each component air dry separately for few minutes. Then install new blade and reassemble.

Cool! Thanks for making me feel welcome. I tossed the Merkur blade after 3 shaves and used a Derby blade today. Not a bad blade IMO, could suit me better than the Merkur. Could also be my technique is improving a bit.... I'll want to try some other brands soon. Saw that shaving.ie has a nice selection of blades, brushes and soaps and much more. Will order a few things there soon.
Thanks also for divulging your cleaning regiments. I'm gonna rinse and shake dry and clean thoroughly when I toss out a blade.

when you try feather or personna lab blue, you will understand why the derby and merkur are both very bad blades ;-)
welcome!
