Just thinking about a new Bull M. XL has anyone shaved with
long Tooth open comb ? Any comments likes, Dislikes or any
comments on quality of workmanship. Seems to be a quality razor.

I just recently purchased one of Bob's Improved handles (3 1/2") with a replated Gillette NEW (long tooth, open comb) head. The quality of workmanship on both the handle and the replated head is superb. It's a slightly aggressive shaver, but not unreasonably so. I am very pleased with this fine shaving tool and highly recommend Bob's custom work.

I had the XL for a while but traded it for a standard BM because I felt it was too long. I know many love it. The Long Comb New is a great shaver.

....Just buy it :w00t:

Pretty much retired all of my handles, at least on my normal rotation for Bob's ones.

I have both the long and short comb heads on Bob's handles. The Long Comb is a little bit less aggressive. I like both of them the same. I am waiting on a new Flare Brass and Bronze combo Knob handle from him, with a 'New" Criterion short comb head. Cannot wait to get my hands on it.

For the record, Bob does FANTASTIC WORK! I have many of his handles on my DE and SE heads. I am a 100% satisfied customer.:thumbup1:

KM, That's quite the collection!. Im just getting started here, Only have 5 razors plus one on the way
Had a slight problem with soaps and creams. Under control for now
I liked that picture ,has a smooth appeal to it. Only hope I can someday have a quality collection as that one. Nice.

I have been shaving with a BRW long open comb new, but with the regular Bull Mastiff handle, this week. It is a beautiful razor with good weight and balance. I'm currently using a red IP in it. I am getting shaves as close as my other razors which include a Futur, Fatboy, and Feather stainless. I think you made a good purchase and will enjoy it immensely! Bob does great work.

I have recently received the BM XL with the NEW head. Initially, the weight of the handle and aggressiveness of the NEW head was making me take some extra time and care to avoid any unexpected blood loss. Unlike others I do like the extra length, but have switched the NEW head with an EJ/Muhle head on the BRW handle until I get used to the extra weight. The NEW head is on my EJ handle so I am learning to use it on a lighter handle. Once I am more comfortable with the extra weight and the NEW head, I will pair them up again, although actually I like the set-ups that I have created.

And that is 100% it in a nutshell, you play with things until it works for YOU,it really does not matter one iota what works for others, it's what works best for you.

I have this BRW Amboyna Burl Handled New and really like it. It is a little less aggressive that the short comb.

Bob's Quality is second to none.
I have several handles, replated DE & SE razor heads, and even brushes made by Cooncatbob.
The shave is fine with the long tooth open comb as you put it.
I have both the XL and standard length handles.
So don't send anything back, just collect BRW products!

Do I read this correctly? Can I interchange a NEW head and an EJ head?

I am curious about this too. I have a BRW handle which I put my EJ head on and really like it. But, if I could buy a long comb New and use that on the same handle I would be a happy man. I thought they were threaded different.

The Gillette will thread into the metric EJ handle but not vice versa as the standard threads are a bit smaller in diameter. I use a Gillette Old Style head screwed into an EJ handle

I expected the EJ to be metric and the NEW to be SAE (U.S.)

Seems the right answer is to contact Bob and buy one of each!

The Metric M5 X 0.8 and the #10-32 have the same thread pitch (threads per inch) but the metric is about .006 larger.
Most vintage handles are so worn they will thread onto a metric head.
All my current handles have the metric threads and will thread onto Vintage Gillette heads and the EJ and Muhle metric heads.

Bob-

What about the color difference between your handles and the chrome of an EJ head? Or does anyone even comment on it?

The colororation difference is only there with the EJ's muhles and so on, the ones that come from Bob are matched perfectly.

Got a BRW Bull Mastiff Deluxe (regular length) and love it. It came with a long-comb New head, but I currently use a replated short-comb, which I like better. I also use this handle with a triangle-hole Tech head and a Feather Portable head. It's a work of art, and in my opinion, the longer handles are overkill. This razor is plenty heavy!

Depends on how anal they are, I always point out that I use nickel plating which isn't a perfect match to the bluer chrome heads.
Obviously my replated heads are a perfect match since they were plated at the same facility as the handles.

KM, I see you have both the standard BM and the BM XL Flare tips in your collection. I just ordered a BM XL Flare tip from Bob yesterday, but it is 2-3 weeks out, I am sure if I do it in a day or two, I could change it. I am not sure how long the regular BM handles are.

I am putting this on my Edwin Jagger. I believe you have at least on EJ with one of Bob's handles, correct? Do you have a recommendation for the best handle for the EJ? Regular, XL or XL Flare tip?
