Ok folks. I have been using Mama Bears lately, and while I love the menthol and scent, I seem to be having an issue getting the right texture. It almost seems dry --- the razor doesn't drag, but it just isn't as slick as it should be. My brush if plenty of wet, if anything I think I might be using too much water, as when I begin to face lather a lot of the water runs out of the brush.

Anywho, what do y'all think of a pre-shave oil? Would that help with the slickness and softening the hair? I had also thought about adding a drop or two of glycerine to the brush --- glycerine is one thing that the Mama Bears should have plenty of, though.

Hmmmm. I don't have similar issues with the Mama Bear's soap I use. I'd suggest having several lathering practice sessions between shaves to see if you can get a better lather. Reading the tutorials is always helpful also. Even one tip that you can use may change your lather.

I have tried shave oil in the past, and think it just gunks up my lather and my razor. Not for me!

The glycerine idea is a good one. I have tried subbing glycerine in for pre-shave oil, with good results - there is less gunk, and it rinses cleaner.

Take a look at the wiki (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Pre-shave_prep) for some pre-shave oil ideas. The pre-shave oil recipe I use has some glycerin in it. Plus, I use Uberlather (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Uberlather), which also contains glycerin. I also make sure my face is wet before lathering and I do this with every pass.

Never had an issue with Mama Bear's soaps. As far as shave oil is concerned I think that they are a waste of time and money. Better results will be had by practicing your lather making technique.

I agree. I find it mildly unpleasant to grease my face before lathering. Save your money for more worthwhile things.
