View Full Version : @#$(%*#)# !!! I Broke My MWF Dish. What now?

My MWF dish slipped about 1/2 inch onto the bathroom sink while I setting it down after loading my brush and shattered. The soap puck is fine. Short of dropping another $50+ to get a soap+dish, what's a good proven alternative? Any wooden soap dishes from other brands fit MWF without needing to shave the puck?

Did it break in half, or did it actually shatter? If the bottom just broke into a couple pieces, you should be able to superglue it together just fine (very Wabi Sabi). I don't personally have much experience with other soap bowls, so I can't say for sure, but Mama Bear's bowls might work.

My MWF is in an empty QCS container. They sell them at queencharlottesoaps.com for about $3, or you can just buy a nice soap or cream and re-use it when it runs out. :)

The container has a little dimple on the bottom that makes the puck pivot, so I just shredded a bit of the soap and pressed the milled portion around the bottom, then pressed the unmilled portion into the softer soap and added a little "waterproofing" milled soap to the edges. Works great for Prairie Creations, L'Occitane Cade, AOS, and MWF.

The bowl shattered into about 10 different pieces - including some little shards. So super-gluing is not an option. :(

Sorry to hear that, but no need to spend $50 bucks. I ordered mine from Connaught Shaving out of the UK and with the exchange rate and shipping to Alaska, I paid $28.62. That is a bargain my friend. However, I am waiting for it to arrive (ordered it on Thursday). You never know, maybe mine will arrive after shattering into 10 different pieces and shards. I would recommend replacing it because the MWF dish is classy and you could always store the extra puck. My two cents.

I would glue the 10 pieces back together and use something to fill the cracks where you don't have a piece. I would then try to apply either a varnish or something to coat the whole bowl... It could be a nice project and you don't have much to loose if it doesn't work.

Yeah, Kent. It's the same soap in a wooden bowl.

I broke two breakable items before embracing my clumsiness and purchasing a wooden mug. The Marvy "Professional Rubber Shaving Mug" is a low cost, attractive alternative.

Mugs usually require shaving the puck a little, so to avoid that, how about a plastic kitchen bowl?

Can you not get MWF in a wooden bowl over there?

I got mine from Connaught for about that. A little under $30. It arrived 1 week to the day after the order. The packaging was secure enough that I'd be really surprised if it broke. If (heaven forbid) mine ever breaks, that's what I'd do. Turn around and sell the new puck to recover a little of the cost and you have a new dish for ~$15.

Shaving soap works just as well out of a $2 ramekin as a $30 custom bowl.

Anyone thought of using something like this to reduce the slipperiness of the bottom half of the bowl?

I don't have this soap so I am not sure of the dimensions. The interior of this wood bowl are 3.25" x 1.25".

I have MWF in the ceramic bowl but then bought the Kent for travelling purposes. To be honest, I prefer the wooden bowl for size, and for some strange reason, the soap in the Kent version hasn't cracked as it did in the ceramic dish.

Ikea Grundtal stainless steel containers are 3 for $5 and the puck won't crack like it does in the MWF ceramic dish.

That would be nice, but the nearest Ikea is like 300 miles from here. :/

Superglue is always an option! I would try it. What is the worst that could happen?

I've heard duct tape can fix anything, or...?

If not Queen Charlotte Soaps has wooden bowls for $7.

Go to target and pick up a suitably sized ramiken, it will probably cost you about $5.00

You are right! I've got MWF, C Saltier, Williams, Spieck (milled), and Provence Sante all in Ramekins. The ramekins all look good, especially the uniform look of them all together. They all stack with the soaps in them, without touching the soap. They are easy to load in due to the low sides. And, I don't feel like I've been had by a grifter.

I'm OVER ceramic bowls. I'm going wood! Does anyone know Kent's 2nds site (ebkent.com doesn't resolve to any website)? If it's just Kent's eBay selling page, are those bowls with soap listed MWF for sure?

Many options here: You can find the soap + bowl cheaper at Connaught or Ebay; you may also decide to use a different container... Your choice.

Old Spice mugs were invented to hold soap pucks.

If anyone wants the intact lid from the MWF ceramic bowl before I throw it out, it's yours for the cost of shipping (figure $6 for Priority Mail within USA).

Edit: I will donate the $6 to Poonjaji's Mercy Corp fundraiser ( http://www.mercycorps.org/fundraising/michaeld )

Maybe on my next trip to Ikea I'll buy some and sell them on BST. I am not sure how many people would be interested in them.

That'd be cool. I got one with the Jingle PIF last year and love it. It currently holds a "pucked" stick and a half of Arko.
