One of our guys teaching emergency first aid had a great idea for a simple survival mini-packet. He picked up the idea for somewhere. Here it is:

A think plastic sandwich bag
4 feet of gauze
4 feet of athletic tape
2 feet of good quality duct tape

Roll up the gauze and the athletic tape and flatten. Place them side-by-side in the bag. Fold the bag keeping the rolls side by side and flat. You will have a 2" by 2"'ish little packet. Roll the duct tape around the packet. Fold 1/4" of the end of the duct tape to be able to grab it in a hurry.

You now have a little packet for that will cover little cuts to severe cuts. You have what you need for a tourniquet with a windless of some kind. Keep one in your pack, bag, glovebox, etc.

Oh yeah, make up a dozen or so. Give them to your wife and kids too.

And better yet, teach them what to do when they need it.
