I was one of the lucky ones that won this fatboy in the clean the razor PIF. I will say when I got it I was like clean what but after opening it up I found the rust on the inside and was like "OH that's what I got to clean". Now I know I have shown you all my other thread with those other 3 razors and the funny thing is that I got those after doing the fatboy. The fatboy gave me the confidence to clean and "restore" a little life back into old razors. Now for some before pictures.

My camera is not the best in the world and is from 2004 so you will have to forgive the bad macro shots. I do have a really nice 35mm camera but I have no way to put it on computer.

Now as you all can see there is soap scum on the knurling and there is some rust as well as the paint is missing from some of the numbers. The first thing that I did was give this puppy a jacuzzi bubble bath.

The foam on top of the razor head is to playfully simulate taking a shower.

Next up was the scrubbing bubbles turn to work at the stubborn soap scum and the little bit of rust that was not willing to jump off the razor.
Here are a pic to show what I mean

and this is what it looks like after 4 applications of scrubbing bubbles

This effectively removed all the soap scum that there was. The bad thing is that it also took out most of the other numbers too.
Then came my polishing step. I could not find MAAS anywhere but brasso I could find.

First I know the picture is wampsided above. I took it that way but it will not correct so... yeah anywho I thought I was done with the polishing step but something inside me said look at the razor. It is sad that you took off the paint. You should fix it. So I did just that.
I took my razor to have a mani-pedi.

Now the razors red adjustment pointer had some of the brass showing through so not only did I repaint the numbers (black for numbers red for dots) I summoned my inner Asian nail salon manicurist and painted that adjustment pointer.
Here is the end product.

The picture may look like there is some red out of the dot but I assure you it isn't. It took me almost 1 hour to do the dots. I made sure there was no paint. Anyway sorry again for it being over multiple posts but this is my cleaned up and restored fatboy.

I know you don't plan on selling your PIF razor, but I'll give you some advice about repainting: some collectors don't like it. If you ever repaint another one you plan to sell, make sure to clearly state what you've done to it. You'll avoid any post-delivery arguments that way. :001_smile

Yeah I would never paint one that I would sell. If I do anything like that it is strictly for me.

Great thread. Very helpful pointers, especially as I am about to do the very same thing. Needed some direction to get started - thanks.
