I need something better than Nivea!

Hey all,

I am new to wet shaving and am at the very beginning of the straight razor learning curve. On top of that I have pretty sensitive skin and a very tough beard. (Best I can place my heritage it's nordic).

So far I've done pretty well with VERY few knicks or scratches. I have been using Nivea extra sensitive or whatever it is called and it works ok but If I was going to spring on any aspect of the shaving experience it would be for a REALLY good aftershave balm.

I am using...
an Omega Boar Brush
AOS unscented soap lathered in a ceramic cereal bowl
A Professionally honed Sheffield Steel Straight
and at the moment only going WTG and XTG

I am very partial to the scent of lime and would like to try something with a pleasing aroma.

What all can you suggest and where should I purchase it? I have yet to find anything readily available in my area so online vendors are my best bet.

I can't think of an ASB with a lime scent, but I can recommend a good cheap ASB readily available in the states. Avon sells an Aftershave "conditioner". It's one of the thickest creamiest ASB's I've ever used. The only downside is it comes in AVON's scents, but the scent is not long lasting. They are usually available on sale at around 1.99 for 100 mls.

L'Occitane Youth Concentrate for Men has a great juniper scent and works fantastic. Not even close to lime, though.

Geo F. Trumper Lime Skin Food. BAM! Best lime scented aftershave I have tried. Works great in terms of moisturizing as well, and you can use it as a pre-shave as well (though I haven't tried that). In fact, that will be my aftershave today :) .

+1 on lime skinfood , Im a lime fanatic myself .. you can get a sampler pack shiiped for cheap from trumpers site and most people recieve a lime as one of the skinfood samples , the sample goes a long way considering how little you use and more than likely you will also get a lime cologne and shave cream sample as well (mine and 2 of my friends all recieved all 3 limes with our samples )

Might have to specify with trumpers about the skin food, really great stuff I couldn't agree more, but the 2 samples I had in the sample pack I ordered less than 2 weeks ago was coral and sandalwood, but I would imagine they will be pretty amenable to your request
