I picked up one of these for £1 at a shop near where I work. I don't get on with their tallow sticks (certainly not with my water at home, anyway) but I'm hoping that the Erasmic Supreme will work nicely for me.

Good luck! From all reports, the non-tallow stick is garbage.

I think you're confusing them with the old Erasmic stick reformulation. They have changed back to tallow!
The Erasmic Supreme has the best container out of any stick I've tried (and I've tried almost all) but is inferior to the old carton box red cap tallow version.
If you really want garbage try the new formulation plastic container Boots stick, it makes Erasmic Supreme the best stick in the world!

Yeah, I think the OP was indicating a non-tallow version. Maybe I misread.
I can't even get near Boots... smells like dirty locker room to me.

The problem with the Boots stick is that it doesn't provide enough cushioning. If you're using a cartridge razor or a '60s Tech then it's probably fine but with a Feather in a NEW, you'd better have a very steady hand.

I believe he was talking about the new Supreme Version, this I think:

A friend brought me these new formulation sticks (already had the old tallow Erasmic) and none of them compares to the old. The Supreme is worth it's money over the cool sturdy container... then place a Valobra stick in there!

Yeah, the big stick in the pic is a completely different soap to the smaller Erasmic sticks - it's more like a 'glycerin soap' - it's the same as what you get in the Erasmic puck.
It's the reformulated version of the smaller stick that used to have tallow that gets all the hate.

Correct. The Erasmic Supreme stick (the big one) has the same composition than the Erasmic puck.
It is one of the few glycerine-based soaps that I like. It is not a bad soap - I even like it - but there are better sticks out-there.

I read the ingredients earlier and am surprised to note that it contains sodium lauryl sulphate. I hope it doesn't irritate my skin.

I used the stick on Saturday and my skin is still sore to-day. The SLS irritated my skin horribly. It really has no business being put into a shaving product - no doubt a cheap ingredient to make the product look as though it is performing better that it really is.

Sorry to hear you didn't get on with it. FWIW, and while I have no particular issues with SLS, I don't really see why it needs to be included in soap, though it's more common than you might think, including in some favourites.
But I would question how you can say with such confidence that 'the SLS irritated my skin terribly'. Surely all you know is that the product as a whole did? SLS is indeed, as we are often reminded 'a known skin irritant', but the trouble is so is soap itself, so is hot water, and so are various other things. The old Erasmic cream was well-liked, but it was also fairly well known for causing adverse reactions.

None of the other ingredients have caused problems for me in other soaps and SLS is fairly high in the list. On the occasions when I have been forced to use hand soap, I have had the same reaction and SLS is the one common factor.

SLS is added as a lather boasting agent. It's also found in the cheap (but extremely well liked) Van Der Hagen soaps.

Huh, that's funny. I've used plenty of soaps with SLS, and not once have I ever heard my lather boast.
