I just thought I'd pass along this technique since I haven't seen it posted. I facelather at least 5 days a week. Oftentimes, I need to hydrate my lather as I'm building it on my face. The techniques I've seen mentioned to do this are to dip your tips in water or dribble some drops into your brush.

The last few days, I've been running my brush quickly under the faucet stream. I run it near the base of the brush, not the tips. Then I give a gentle downward plunge like I do when I shake out my brush after soaking. I take it back to my face and start building away.

I've found that this hydrates my lather just as well as the other techniques, but it also helps to push the lather out to the tips of the brush where it's usable. I have a much easier time getting to that great lather that used to just sit near the base and would only get to the tips by physically squeezing the brush.

Anyway, try it out, it might work for you too.

I've always just allowed the running water from the faucet to wet the tips of my brush, but I like this approach, and I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks for posting.

Me too! I'll also use this method when building lather in my scuttle.

I find that if I get more than the brush tips wet it just makes a mess dribbling too wet lather all over the place. That's why I don't even soak my brush. I'm in no hurry, I'll stick with dipping the tips.

I dip the tips in the water (I'm a full-basin shaver, not running water) and that works for me if the lather becomes a little dry by pass 2-3.

I'll give that a go. A similar thing I tried was dipping my fingers in water then using that hand to hold the brush - letting the water dribble down the handle to the base of the knot. But that works better for bowl lathering than face lathering.
