Thanks Steve, I got one OK - and there were actually two there, so there's still one left :-) When I got home, I did notice an expiry date printed on the tube of 09/2009, but it smells and feels fine so I'm happy to use it - I won't be shaving today, but I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Yeah, I got the same - it went off a bit like Crazy Foam to start, but settled down to nice and creamy after a bit of work. It's more concentrated than the creams I usually use - Palmolive, RSC, Arko - and my usual amount generated far more lather than I needed, so it's pretty economical. I actually used some as a soap to give my face a bit of a scrub with my fingers, and let the bowl stand while I was doing that. And when I used it to shave, it was very good indeed. The end result felt great, even though one of the blades I was using was a bit tuggy (I'm doing a blind blade test - see here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/261014-Blind-test-2-Astra-SP-vs-Derby?p=3618574#post3618574)). I like the scent too - to me it seemed like barber shop with a hint of spice.

Anyway, I got a photo of the lather. It doesn't really show just how much is also in the bowl. And although it might look a bit bubbly in the bowl, it's not really - it's a very creamy lather with just a few larger bubbles...

I saw Dweezil in Tampa on Earth Day back when he and Lisa Loeb were an item. Enjoyable show. Wow. April 25, 1998. Man, I'm getting old.

Hi Steve, keep up the good work. Been a fan of yours since early Spring ( I came across one of your videos after searching for a Mantic video on YouTube). Great to see that you are on B&B and have quite a fan base here.

Hey Steve, I know you were talking about Palmolive sticks in one of your recent vids - was it £1 each or something like that? I was in St John's today, and Wilkinson (on the top floor, next to Poundland and Home Bargains) has them for 49p - quite a decent stock of them too.

I totally agree. I got into wetshaving to SAVE money not the other way around. While I can understand some/most? on here that lean more towards the collector aspect I tend to lean more towards the shaver aspect.

Whoa! I'm pretty sure if I shaved like that my wife might find me dead in a pool of blood. I noticed that was also after he skipped a day. If I skip a day I've got a forest. I'd like to get faster but I'm not sure that's possible. On the other hand, maybe faster would be better. Not looking for every little hair. I'll aim for somewhere between his 5 minutes and my 20.

Right to the point, no doubt. It just goes to show that this whole thing need not be overly complicated.

On another note, I would be curious to know if others are using a cologne, a moisturizing cream and an aftershave (all 3) as part of their post-shave?

I tend to use some alum followed by moisturiser (Simple Derma), then an aftershave (Alvarez Gomez is a fave) if I'm going out... but normally I'll only use the alum on any bits which feel a bit raw, or where I've nicked myself, and the aftershave won't usually go on if I'm shaving in the morning, but in the evening before a night out...

So yes, I suppose that on occasion I get close to this guy's post-shave routine.

I prefer only to shave every 2 or 3 days if possible - I've yet to develop the correct technique/combination of razor/blade/products to be able to shave daily without irritation. I also seem only to get BBS when I haven't shaved for a few days, which seems a bit paradoxical.

Try going Alum first then moisturiser, not sure the alum works if the moisturiser barrier has been applied....I'm still sticking with my cologne/alum>moisturiser> after shave order.....works for me and a few others (Tim and Paul others who contacted me through YTube) have also adopted it and say it works for the them too, its based on my pro turkish shaves.... give it a week and see how it feels, I've had loads of stick about putting alcohol (Cologne) on straight away, as its said to make the skins too dry but I think ir closes the pores and any nicks and then the moisturiser does the skin improving.

I dotn know and its my brush! lol it was present and the person who bought it me can remember but she does remember is that it was fairly expensive, it has a heavy onyx handle and I guess in my experience a reall heavy handle makes al the difference, I have very nice badger but the handle is really light and because of the lightness i doesnt feel as good. Ive got a horse hair brush to test on the live BiG Shave on 27th December at 16:00hrs GMT and there's a neew blogg too

I've never used the Astra SS but I do use the Astra SP. It's a good blade but it seems that it needs a break in. The first few passes with an Astra are a bit harsh but then it becomes one of the smoother blades I've tried for the next 3-4 shaves. A great bargain blade for sure.

Did you get that Gillette lemon cream at the Tuebrook market by any chance? I got some outdated stuff there a while ago, but it must have gone off cos it was no good. It smelled great and seemed to soap up ok, but it had no effect on my whiskers at all - what a waste of 50p!

its very harsh on the first one or two shaves, left me feeling a bit raw on the skin but it settles in, seems mad that tis too sharp, maybe put it through a tame razor like the Wilkinson classic first maybe?

It's funny, I just tried a half Astra SP in my shavette last night and it was wonderful! Right on the first use too. What a nice comfy shave. It was much better at cutting through the hair on my chin than the Shark blades that came with the razor. I'm not familiar with the Wilki Classic, but the Astra worked very well in my Merkur 180. It is on the milder side so you may be onto something there.

I have moved over to Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows as my go to blade for DE shaving now. They just flat out work for me.

No way I could get away with such a simple and quick approach. First off, my face would be a mess if I tried shaving with lather that thin. I've got to have a thick lather, which is why I bowl lather. Secondly, I can't use long strokes like he does. If I did that I'd end up with a face full of stubble. I'm guessing this guy's beard is fairly thin and easy to lap off. Mine is fairly thick and the whiskers are very course; which is why I need the thick lather and I need to take my time using short strokes. My method takes much longer than his, but my results would be terrible if I tried using this guy's methods...

I got into this about two months ago and love it. But along the way, I got two scuttles (I live in two different places with a stocked shave den in each), three razors, a boat load of blades, several brushes, a cream or two, and various and sundry accessories.

I'm settling back down now, to two or three soaps, finding my one blade, getting my technique and process settled down.

Then I find this wonderful gent! No fancy nonsense, no overthinking it, you get in the bathroom, you grab your gear, you shave, quickly I might add, and you get on about your day!

The entire procedure, start to finish, including narration along the way? Under five minutes! I found this very refreshing!

That is a great video, and that criss cross method he does has helped me get stubble I used to miss.
