Hi all,
I think I may have a slight intolerance for fragrances, at least from the DR Harris line. It's not too bad, but I do feel a little tingly/burning sensation the longer the lather stays on my face. I've been curious about gold dachs for a while now, as I've heard it really gets your whiskers ready for a close shave.
However, does it have a strong fragrance? Has anyone had issues with the soap? It's a little on the expensive side just to buy it and hope for the best, so is there a place I can get a small sample of it, at least so I'll know whether my face likes it or not?
Thanks in advance!

Gold Dachs is supposedly lavender scented. I never got a lavender scent but then I got a wicked burning sensation every time I tried to use it so it got PIF'd right away.

I have it and cannot really describe the scent as anything more than "soapy".
That being said, I believe GD raises the pH of their soap to make it soften the beard so it may irritate you.

I was mocked the last time I said this, but the scent of Gold Dachs really reminds me of mango. I find that it is an outstanding veggie soap, but some do have sensitivity to it. It's rumored to have a slightly higher pH than most soap.

To me the original Gold Dachs Rivivage has a soapy scent.
There is also a Sandalwood (http://www.royalshave.com/p/422-031/gold-dachs-rivivage-shaving-soap-refill.html) scent, which is faint but nice, and the Macho (http://www.royalshave.com/p/422-031/gold-dachs-rivivage-shaving-soap-refill.html) scent which I can't really describe well.

It smells clean with a bit of lavender. I like it a lot, and it lathers very well.

Same here, one of my favorites.
Too bad it is so costly. My little pucks (56g) ended up about $8 each!

Does anyone know of a place that sells sample sizes of any of the above scents (preferably the classic, soapy one, but I'd like to be able to try a little at some point)

To me it smells of Lavender mixed with a musky citrus. I do not know of any place you could get a sample but at full price it is still avery good product, the aluminium container also makes it very handy when travelling.

Well I just received a sample of Gold Dachs from a fellow member. I whipped up a test lather and it just explodes into gooey yogurty cream without the slightest effort. Not too hot on the smell (I believe it's the classic scent) but it's light so I don't mind. I'm looking forward to trying this out tomorrow to see how my face likes it!

Boy - I can't pick up a trace of lavender or mango or citrus. I like all 3 scents but I don't find them in my GD at all.
I got mine here > http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Gold-Dachs-Rivivage-Shaving-Soap-Refill-2-pak_p_999.html
Grated both pucks into 1 bowl.

I've been curious about this product for some time now. How does it lather in hard water?
I really don't need any more soap; it'll take me at least four years to get through what I have. Oh well, resistance is futile.

Well, I tried my first shave with Gold Dachs this morning. I only had time for one pass, but I didn't have any burn, and I got a good (for one pass) shave. Still whipped up a good lather in almost no time at all, so it's fair to say I'm impressed. I'll have to do a more traditional 2 pass with touchup to see how it does on an average day tomorrow.
