So, yesterday I was antiquing and stumbled upon a bunch of straights. Out of the bunch there were really only two that I felt like the steel was worth saving. All the others had serious hone wear, one having a 3mm+ frown!!

Razor 1: Dubl Duck Dwarf. Scales completely busted up and falling apart in my hands. Blade has some black spots and surface rust, but no deep pitting and the edge looks clean. This is my start to finish project razor.

Razor 2: Shumate Barber I believe 5/8. It is still mostly a mirror finish and needs only minor polishing and then honing and it should be good to go. Centers in the handle nicely. Maybe a very very slight smile, but nothing that won't come out.

The lady threw in a really dirty Gem OCMM to sweeten the pot. I ended up paying $30 for the two straights and the GEM. Did I get taken or did I do ok? I figure the Shumate is going to end up being a good razor quickly. The DD will be a fun learning experience. The OCMM will end up getting sold/traded/PIF'd.

There was also another couple of razors that I though about, but didn't jump on. One would be purely for an eBay resale. It was a Case brand, blade was clean, centered ok, $50. The other was a W&B "bow razor" with a slight smile and a fairly clean blade with no huge rust spots, $25. Go back and get them or leave them there?

Thanks for reading and teaching y'all.

How do I find out the ages of my razors?

There is no precise wa with most razors. With the DD depending on whether it says Bresnick or Bresduck or Pearlduck you can put it within maybe 20 years or so.

It is a Pearlduck which puts it on the late 40s early 50s I believe. The Shumate, who knows.

I didn't take any pictures of the other razors, but here are some pictures of the razors I did buy.

How do I find out the ages of my razors?

If the Shumate says St. Louis, it was made between 1904 and 1919.

It does! That's great! I am even more excited now! I even found a couple of ads on ebay. One a 1918 for a Shumate Barber and a 1935 for a GEM OCCM. I might have to buy them and put them up in the bathroom.
