Today I got a haircut and my barber "squirted" some talc on the back of my neck using something that looked like a black, rubber squeezable bulb with a nozzle. It was loaded with talc (of course), and I have no idea what it is called or where I could find one.

Could it be one of those irrigators used for cleaning your ears? You can get them at the drugstore. I saw a talc applicator at Fendrihan.com. It is under "talc"!

Strange coincidence you are posting this today because I happened to come across it earlier. This sounds like what you are looking for.

How/why do you use one? I usually see talk put on with a brush.

She would mist the talc on the back of your neck post hair cut. I just thought it was pretty cool.

if you are not using a corn starch talc, but the real old fashioned talcum powder,be like bill and don't inhale.this little bulb really puffs it out,and talc can cause problems in the lungs..I have always loved and used talc, but I take caution not to inhale the stuff...

This has to be one of the neatest gadgets I have seen. Singular purpose but seemingly perfect. I have to get one of them.

Yikes! Thanks for the tip, I never use the corn starch stuff.

Could you use a turkey baster?

The best solution I've found to apply talc came from a B&B member when I posted a thread looking to buy a powder puff.

His suggestion was to take an old sock, dump a good amount of talc in the toe, tie it off, and pat it to those areas where you want to apply. The right amount of talc will get through the porous sock, and go straight onto your skin without having most of it wind up on the floor or in the air where you can breathe it in or have it get on stuff you don't want powdered.

I don't remember who came up with this idea, but I've been using it for two years now, and it works great.

Hey I used to do that on Halloween and hit my friends with it. Left a nice powder mark. I should have thought of that :001_smile

+1

Talc can cause lung diseases like silicosis with repeated inhalation of the stuff. The dust gets in the lungs and basically forms a "paste" of talcum that can not be absorbed by the body, and the cilia in the lungs can not adequately move the particles out of the lungs once it is dampened. (Just think of it like inhaling asbestos "junior"...)

Ouch! This hits close to home. My computer in my room was developing respiratory problems because I was putting too much powder in the air. Foot powder, talc etc.

Now I have to restrict myself to the bathroom with the door closed. Seal myself in and turn the ventilator fan on.
