I am holding a group buy for the new Feather SS razors and the KAI Mild blades. The Feather SS razors are a cheaper option for people who want a stainless steel razor but can't afford the DX model. It's made for sensitive skin and seems to get positive reviews. Read here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/189805-Feather-SS-(New-One)). It is available in neon yellow, neon pink, and black, and comes in both folding and non-folding styles. The KAI Mild is also made for sensitive skin. Paired together, you can't get a more forgiving shave. I'm offering the blades to people who buy razors. I will not sell them separately.

The group buy is open until 9 PM NY time, Friday, June 24, 2011. I'll place one order Friday night (Saturday morning in Japan). Payment must be made by then. This is a one-shot deal.

Feather SS razor - $135 shipped CONUS; $140 shipped abroad
KAI Mild pack (22 blades) - $11 per pack

Payment is by PayPal only. If you are abroad and converting your payment to USD, then I ask that you add $2 to cover PayPal's cross-currency fees. If you already have USD in your balance, then there is no extra fee.

If you're interested, please post your interest - style, color, # of packs (if any) - in this thread. Do not send me a PM. I will contact you. Thanks.

Many seems to prefer the Kai milds, they are supposed to be more forgiving than the Feathers. And yes, you can of course use the Feather blades in it :001_smile

Thanks for offering. I am hesitating because I already have enough gear, but this is tempting.

Has anyone found a good closeup of the folding vs non-folding or the different colors? Something with more resolution than the manufacturer's picture:

Must be the yellow one here:

I will say this- due to a Japanese shipping mix up I had in my possession the folding model for a scant few hours. It was a quality piece for sure, but the scales do have all the qualities of injection molded plastic resin. The finish on the metal is similar to the finish on the Feather DE, which is to say a matte finish, not that milled surface of the AC DX, although both are 100% stainless. Though i had wanted the non folding, I would been happy with the folding too. I can post pics of my non folding if you want, just let me know what.

Must be the yellow one here:
http://www.feather.co.jp/Barber/artist_club/ss_02.jpg

The razors on the left are green and the razor on the bottom right is yellow but the truth is that there is no green - only yellow. The green color is a misrepresentation.

anything for a BOTB

I also have the Teak AC DX, and while the DX is a better made razor IMO, the new head style of the SS has to be tried to be believed for the ease of attaining BBS shaves. Its still 100% stainless according to the instruction it came with, so at 35.00 more than the brass RG, and 65.00 less than the DX(nonfolding), I think its a deal, especially since you already have a top shelf DX folding, which I still love, BTW. This razor gives a different enough feeling shave to warrant having, if nothing else, for the sake of variety.

Oh just get it already, you know you want it.

the little uneveness in the gap is from when I dropped in in the sink the second day I got it....DOH still shaves fine tho

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/kds471/Snapbucket/CA565A25-orig.jpg

and finally an ATG grip shot..its really great on the atg pass, and for those one handed shavers I think this is a godsend as I find I can do an ATG on both sides of the face with the right hand easily compared to the contortions I would need to do with a conventional folder...geez my fingers look really stubby....:confused1

I used straights for a while. They take time to learn. I eventually went this route because I didn't like stropping.
I find the shaves just as good.

These Feather razors are great but they have a higher learning curve then a "traditional" / non-disposable straight razor. The blades are far sharper and (in my opinion) have less flex and thus will do more damage in an unskilled hand.

I use both my collection of Feather razors and non-disposable razors and like them equally. However, the only permanent shaving scar I have is from one of my Feather razors.

I dabbled with traditional str8s for a couple of months and while I could immediately see the advantages to it and had some great shaves, mostly it left me unsatisfied. I just never felt like the blade was sharp enough, and I know it was due to my stropping technique. I decided to try a shavette, and immediately was enlightened. All the benefits of a str8 without the hassle of maintenance. Within two weeks of trying a shavette I had ordered this exact setup from Telly and have not looked
Back, for me this is perfect. Long story short, I think this would be a great starter combination, I find it to be more forgiving than everyone says. Respect it yes, fear it, no. I say go for it, you will have no problem Reselling if it's not for you.

I think this may be the best bet for a newbie. The head kind of takes out SOME the guess work of angle that confounds most newer shavers. It either shaves or doesnt. Now if you mash the head into your face it will still remove your skin from your skull so some modicum of skill is necessary.

I tried mine yesterday. I went with the KAI Mild blade and I am glad that I did. I almost nicked myself a couple of times. If the blade had been any sharper, I'm sure they would have been bleeders. I had to reach for a DE to touch up a few places, but the area that I managed to get to was nearly BBS. My skin was a bit irritated: I can tell it is going to take some time to find the right angle and get a good feel for handling the razor. Thanks again Telly.

Yeah I found that last night through a link somewhere at another shaving board.
I might wait for the group buy instead to save a few bucks.

Is it possible to still get in on this?

Yes, indeed. I need more blades and probably a foldable too :001_smile

Even the second one arrived in time for my birthday! Thanks, Telly

So how long did it take for these to shop up on door steps?

If there would be a second group buy I would buy a SS and a bunch of blades. A week ago I got a RG (exchanged for a snuffbox) and I like the way the feather shaves. Have a nice shave, Ron

Or if anyone doesn't like the one they got (black only) I have a new J.A. HENCKELS FRIODUR INOX SOLINGEN NOS or a new Dovo silversteel 5/8" with ebony handles that I would be willing to send to you in exchange? Have a nice shave, Ron

I believe your exchange offers should be limited to BST, but you do not have enough posts to make such an offer yet.

Sorry, you are correct I should have thought about that. Have a nice day
