1st time using the Israeli Personna blade. Not bad but I got a bit more burn and irritation than I'm used to. Will give it a few more shots before making a decision since this was a brand new blade and all.
I love the smell of the Taylor's Sandalwood cream. For me, this scent reminds me of the barber shop that I would visit with my father when I was a small boy.
Have a nice day.

I'll keep the razor, blade, and a/s treatment identical.
The C&E cream provides what I'd have to call adequate, but not exceptional, lather. In this regard, it is not unlike T&H- very good, but not spectacular. The scent, however, is magnificent. I've tried sandalwoods from Coates, Trumper, Taylor, C&E, and AOS, and based on fragrance alone, I'd put this one at the top of the pack. It also has the greatest staying power by a wide margin. The others, which range from nondescript to extremely pleasant, seem to fade by shave's end, but the C&E lingers for a considerable time. I find myself sniffing my finger (now that certainly conjures up some weird thoughts) an hour later. Let's see how the Trumper fares manana.

The Trumper has a nice, classic scent, but is nowhere near as appealing as the C&E. Still, it delivers a top quality, untuous, textbook lather. Round one is a virtual dead heat, but we need a winner. I give the nod to Trumper, putting more weight on efficacy.

Randy,
any words on the Mama Bear cream/soap? I saw mention of it on our board not too long ago and checked out their web-site. It's like my first trip to Baskin-Robbins, I wanted way more than I could reasonably consume (not like that's ever stopped me from buying way more than I need before)

Right now I have Mama Bear's Mayan Gold soap. Not a fan of the scent, but it works up a great lather and gives a good shave. I've used it twice now, both times with straights. The protection is good. Tonight I ordered a few things from her site, including Vetiver, Patchouli, Chocolate and Dragon's Blood. Other than the Chocolate, the other three are patchouli type fragrances. She's leaving on a trip, so I dont expect to have these for a couple of weeks.

This is the new formulation of the Taylor lavender cream, which strikes me as having a more natural scent than its predecessor. It whips up into the typical thick Taylor lather, and shaves like a dream. I find it every bit as good as the much heralded Trumper violet, with the added benefit of not staining everything it touches. This cream doesn't knock my socks off, but it does very little wrong, and is a nice addition to the rotation. It's not the first cream I think of, but I am pleased almost every time I revisit it.

Rich, this is a silly question I know, but how does one stretch the skin on the face or neck without it hurting? I can't do it at all, because if I try, the pain I experience makes me feel like I'm going to tear the tissues in my face. It's so unbearable, I can't begin to explain.

I'm glad that CF only makes two creams. If they had a full portfolio, I'd be tempted to use them exclusively, which goes against my "gottayusemall" nature. Some creams have bouquets worthy of a DRC burgundy, but are rather pedestrian in terms of efficacy. Others work like a charm, but have fair to middlin' scents. Castle Forbes creams excel in both departments, and their lavender may be the best of them all.

What a brush the Kent BK8 is! I have been using a Taylor’s S2235 (which turns out to be a Vulfix) brush up til now and been very happy with it, well until the BK8 arrived. I gave it a thourough wash with Palmolive Shave cream an left it to dry overnight. This morning I was astounded with the size of the bloom of this brush. I used the same amount of Trumper’s Voilets cream as I would on the Taylor’s brush and set to work. I have never seen so much thick lather. It seems like the brushes work kinda like the DE razor, a DE handle costs a bit more but the cheapness of the blades makes it worthwhile, if this brush produces this amount of lather then my running costs are going to be reduced significantly as I only need to use half the soap!

Jeff, I don't personally do much skin stretching beyond just contorting my face by itself, though many, many shavers here will differ greatly and advocate some pretty strong pulling-taut. I might open my mouth wide, or purse my lips, or move my jaw around so that skin doesn't actually hang slack, but I don't actually actively stretch.

The mighty "T's" may be in deep doo-doo, as the Coates has just delivered a top notch shave. The rose scent may be a bit muted compared to its more flamboyant breathren, but the scent is proper, pure, and backed by a thick, unctuous lather that delivers a knockout shave. It's up to T&H to maintain the honor of the T's. Of course, there are those who maintain that if the 3T's are the DiMaggio's of the shave world, then T&H is Dominic.

This morning delivered what turned out to be the best shave yet of my short wet shaving career. I will give much credit to the improvement of my lather--found that I've needed to increase the amount of h2o in the mix. I also feel that the technique is coming along as well, not to mention the fact that the superspeed gives me a better shave than the hd...something about the way the razor's head rests on the face. Regardless, next week I will return to the hd and test it against my improved lathering skills.

Best shave I've had in weeks! Of course I have no idea why. . .I didn't shave yesterday, so the extra stubble usually helps me get a closer shave. Then I used a new blade, the brand of which almost killed me last time. Then I used new shave cream, which is very different than anything else I have/use--less of an almond scent than a floral aroma, at least to my nose.
All in all, a wonderful way to start off my day!

The cream does an excellent job. The smell is nothing special, but not unpleasant. I really like the ASB. I will definitely be buying some (both products were samples from a friend).

For my SOTD Saturday, I went to the Truefitt & Hill in Caesar's (details to follow if I can ever download the damn pics from my crappy phone). They use their Ultimate Comfort Shave Cream in their lather kings. The smell is 'nothing special' because it is unscented, but as you mention, it's certainly not off-putting (I enjoyed it).

Been using my Futur so many days in a row, I've gotten used to it. Great shave, until I got to my neck where I went overboard trying to get it glass smooth, which the Futur does with far fewer passes.
Now I got some nice, dark, red abrasion on the throat. Treated with a layer of witch hazel, Proraso Pre, Bactroban ointment, and I'm going to go break off a piece of aloe plant to squeeze out and put on my cat's hot spots. Might as well dab the leftover on my burn 8)
I think today's shave was the scene of a coup. The mighty Merkur Futur has supplanted the Gillette adjustable as lord of John's shaving domain.

Day one of the pre-shower shave:
Merkur HD with new Derby Extra
EJ for C&E Super
C&E Sienna SC
Thayer's Superhazel
Results: Not too bad...I think I'll continue to use this method the rest of the week to get a good comparison with post-shower shaving. Today, the neck didn't get quite as close as usual but I'll blame that on technique from switching back to the HD from the superspeed.
